1989 Crown Royal 1/2 cut wont start.

Finally got a pump - and some time to play with it! Now it spins on the starter, lets out a mad GROWL then stops... It's as if the ignition is only supplying spark when cranking. Once I let go the key, it stops. I am thinking the injectors are well and truly gummed up (fuel varnish). Any...

1989 Crown Royal 1/2 cut wont start.

Yes. That's what I thought, re the regulator. I was just wondering if the LP pump would manage to open the injectors - evidently not.. I am going to buy the "final" pump I will need for the car I am building, rather than buy a cheap 2nd hand pump, then buy one again later. Thanks heaps guys! Jeff

1989 Crown Royal 1/2 cut wont start.

Thanks Rod. More or less confirms my suspicions. The pump I am (was) using was from a Gemini, so I would imagine it's not delivering high enough pressure. Re the return line, there's no fuel coming out from it as I would expect, so this confirms the low pressure diagnosis. Would a common or...

1989 Crown Royal 1/2 cut wont start.

This should be an easy one... My Crown 1/2 cut wont start. Has spark at the plugs. Cranks OK. I think it's fuel related as I have rigged up a temporary pump which may not be giving enough pressure. I can get fuel from the fuel rails by loosening the cold-start fuel line. Does the cold start...

    Un-tiliting a Crown 1UZ.

If you don't mind. That'll be handy. I haven't pulled the engine out yet - need to make sure it goes first, then remove it.

    Un-tiliting a Crown 1UZ.

Thanks for the replys guys. And thanks Peewee. How's life in the sunny West? Re the sump, I haven't studied the innards, yet. Is the pickup on the left or right (as viewed from the drivers seat)? I know the dipstick wouldn't be accurate anyway. But I will review it once the engine is out of...

    Un-tiliting a Crown 1UZ.

Greetings all, from Oz. I am installing a 1UZ from a Crown in a Street rod. The engine when in the Crown is tilted over to allow space for the steering box. I wish to install it "upright". Obviously this will mean the gearbox is tilted - not an ideal situation (I think). I see from a previous...

Bought the wife a car - not a Toyota

If it's anything like my old TR you should have a good run. The TR was the "second shape" - the model before your shape. I bought it new in 1992. An SE manual 4 cylinder. Wasn't too bad for power (within reason) certainly had no trouble pulling a trailer with a ton of firewood on the odd...

    some easy questions

Not sure about 1UZ's yet... I have found that sticking to a good quality oil, and not trying something new - just to be different, provides a long and healthy engine life. I generally keep my cars a long time and do long distances overall and get good life out of my engines. Last car was a 1991...
