Johan
I have not yet been able to get enough cash together to actually start the build yet - I hope to start early next year!
Please let me know how your build goes!!
Please correct me if I am wrong -
The A341e gearbox has a rubber coupling with a 3 prong flange as below:
The A340 gearbox has a sliding yoke as below:
Has anybody done a 1uzfe with a A340 gearbox and LT230 transfer case into a Land Rover 90" (2360mm wheelbase)
I am worried about the rear prop shaft length.
Anybody with the conversion in an Range Rover classic (100") - how much space did you have for the rear prop?
If I have missed it on the forum please show me where!
I would like to know how I can identify these two gearboxes from the outside. Ie what is noticeably different between the two.
The reason that I need to know - I would prefer the A340e transmission for my 4x4 aplication due to the...
I am trying to size a radiator for a 1uzfe
I need to know what the rated coolant flow rate is a max power as well as the rated kW (heat) to be extracted at max power
The manufacturer usually have this specification available if anyone knows where to find it!!!
I am still going to try to get a adaptor made up. I have found someone here in SA who SAYS that they have machined shafts for this aplication before...
I agree with what you have said regarding the driveshaft lengths! That rear one is going to be very short with a divorced case!
Thanks for all the info
As I have posted elsewhere, in SA we are limited in what engines are available. I will only be able to tell you what engine and gearbox I have the day I actually buy it off the floor!!!
I will most certainly see if I can get hold of one from an LS400.
I doubt that...

It depends where you go in SA - there are cooler areas but I stay in one of the hottest parts!!!!!
We are not so fortunate here in terms of engine and gearbox supply - we get the "lower" quality engines and transmissions (Not even a half cut - just the engine and if you are lucky...
Info please...

Does the modifications work well? I am looking at trying something similar but with plates.
In terms of manufacturing a new output shaft for the gearbox:
1. Do you have a material specification for the old shaft?
2. What material did you use for the new shaft and...
I am planning on using the A341e transmission in a project 4x4 vehicle. I live in one of the hottest parts of South Africa. Summer hits just above 45deg C (113 deg F) and winter sits at allmost 30deg C (86 deg F). Just like in Australia I have to design around the high temperature. With the...
I am planning on fitting the 1UZ into a Land Rover.
I have decided to go with electric fans - past experience and advice from the forum
This does however raise the question of what to do with the hydraulic pump on the 1uz.
Do I need to engineer an alternative tensioner - have been down a...

Thanks for the idea! I had not even thought about doing that. The divorced transfer case - does it have offset outputs to match the Landy offset diffs?
I was planning on changing the 110 diff from the standard 1:3.3198 to 1:4.71 I will use the series 3 LR crownwheel and pinion...
CAD models of gearbox output shaft
I have settled on putting the LT230 in. Does anyone have CAD model (Preferably Pro-E) of the output side of the a341e or 340 gearbox. I would like to look at mounting the transfer case.
I understand from my research that the way the transfer case is...
My first choice would be to go with the Land Cruiser or Patrol chassis - in SA these vehicles are WAY overpriced, so of course all parts.
Thanks for the info regarding the diffs! I will need to see how available the axles will be. I do think that the higher ratios will be better!
As 3barboost said - the quality of the stuff we get here is terrible. I have purchases an engine in the past - had to do a complete reconditon immeditely after installing it! Wires and hoses all cut off with angle grinders, parts missing and damaged. I ended up buying 2 machines to get enough...
