So, took my 1UZ powered surf for 4WD the other night. It suddenly died. Found the belt to be snapped. So replaced the belt, thinking that was the problem. Still no charging after that.
Checked all the fuses, checked for 12v at all 3 pins on the alternator. This was fine. So removed the alternator and took it in to work. Ran it up on the test bench and the result was interesting to say the least. Every time 12v was supplied to the 'sense' wire the alternator would almost completely lock up. Our auto sparky put it down to a dodgy regulator.
A new regulator was $80 or a brand new one was $200. So have just installed it but still cant get it to charge. 3 pins have 12v, checked the 80 amp fuse and 7.5 amp fuse. Allgood.
Any suggestions? Cheers for any help.
