Please help guys, i have a 1uz in my S13 Nissan and just where the harmonic balance is there is a hole with water dropping through it, I went and baught a new water pump today, but i dont think its the right part.. can anyone tell me what i need to do to fix this please...

G'Day mate,

My car leaked water from the exact same spot when my water pump went.

You will find the water pump is behind all that stuff so the water ends up coming through that hole when it leaks.

awesome, just what i needed to hear, thanx mate...

was a bit worried as i shopped around for water pumps...
Repco = $400
Autobarn = $360
Global Auto Spares = $240
and Cheapa Auto Spares = $160!

Was beginning to think i didnt need the water pump..

Dood, get the pump genuine, I paid less than any of your prices there.

If you contact james sloane at Castle Hill Toyota he will sort you out.

If you're going to replace the pump, drain and flush your coolant and replace it with proper Toyota red coolant. The green stuff is what caused the pump to leak in the first place. You have to get the proper coolant, its available at Toyota/Lexus dealerships only, the red coolant at auto stores is not the same either.

I was talking to my mechanic mate who is also familar with the 1uz, and he said dont bother, just get corrosion inhibitor as thats all u need, and it actually runs a lil cooler than other stuff.

he said its the stuff int he lil 500ml bottle that dilutes into 15L of distilled water..?

Well, technically you could just run plain distilled water without anything else in it, and you don't have to worry about corrosion, its aluminum block/head. However I don't know if water alone is a good enough a lubricant for the water pump, and also if the temperature in where you are drops below freezing point.

It won't corrode, but it'll have white residue which I believe it's contaminated with chlorine that will eventually build up and clog the radiator fins. You may not have that problem in your area, but that happens a lot to the water in my area. I can leave a bucket of water outside and wait for it to be vaporized & dry and the white water line will form.
