Hi this is my first time posting. Been lurking for a few months on info about my sc400. my friend blew my motor in the 1993 sc400 with an OBD1 engine/ecu.

i'm finally getting around to replacing it("mechanic" held car hostage) and come to find out motor/harness is gone and i'm starting from scratch.

the question is can i swap an 1996 OBD2 engine/harness/ecu into my 1993 OBD1 chassis?

more hassle than its worth?

how can i pull codes(obd2 way) without port?

how can i pull codes(obd1 way) with the obd2 setup?

You'll need to replace the missing harness with something, I would opt for the OBDII myself, but it will be some work. You will be surprised when it's all done how few (necesarry)wires are associated with other parts of the automobile, most are just between the engine and ECU.
You may need to get a small circuit to bypass the internal security device inside the OBDII ECU, but it's actually fairly simple.
As for your questions; you can't retreive the specific codes w/out a port, but every OBDII ECU is easily setup with a port( three wires if I recall); and no no flashing light-code reading w/an OBDII ECU.
