The engine in my ute originally had a mid sump, and a rear sump wouldn't have worked. I didn't use a front sump because it meant that I couldn't get the engine back as far (or as low) as I wanted. Most of the conversions I've seen just lift the engine up a bit and go forward, it keeps sump mods to a minimum and also allows a bit more room for decent headers. I modified my sump extensively, to give me a true rear sump.
