Hey guys, mid to late 80's single cab hilux 1UZ conversion, what sump position is needed? Cheers!

2wd or 4wd?
most 2wds use a front sump, and I think 4wds without IFS use one too, small mods needed to sump bowl for clearance.

The engine in my ute originally had a mid sump, and a rear sump wouldn't have worked. I didn't use a front sump because it meant that I couldn't get the engine back as far (or as low) as I wanted. Most of the conversions I've seen just lift the engine up a bit and go forward, it keeps sump mods to a minimum and also allows a bit more room for decent headers. I modified my sump extensively, to give me a true rear sump.

There are some pics on here somewhere that show a front sump fitting in with minimal mods. Here's one of Phil's ute:

We always use front in hilux 2WD and most of the 4WD. Doing a 1993 extra cab at the moment - looking good too - cheers

does he need any bits like bell housings / clutch etc? If it was later I would have mounts but not pre 1989. The front sump motor headers don't fit and neither do the oil filters. I have a really good solution for the oil filter. Cheers Kelvin
