Steering wheel stuck in UP position

my steering wheel is stuck in the up position. its the model where you can pull the wheel in and out manually but its up and down motion is controlled eletronically. when i hit the down button it seems to be grinding something. need advice.

Grinding? That doesnt sound good. If it doesnt move when the bottom is pushed, the its most like the ecu that control the steering wheel height, but grinding its possible the motor.

heya fellas similar one for this thread, i got my steering wheel re-leathered recently and since they did it, the auto retract/positioning is in purely manual mode and doesnt move in/out when the key is inserted..... is there a way to reset this setup? its not all that inconvenient but it is vexing that it was perfect right up until that point....
