Engine Oil for Turbo Application

Hey Gang,

I was using 10/40 regular oil and the turbo smoke a little during hard acceleration. I finally changed it to 5/30 and the car actually ran better. Much less smoke and the engine idle alot smoother. I was think perhaps mix say like 4 quarts 5/30 and one quart 5/20. What do u think.

Hi David, I see above you are running standard oil, i would suggest you change it for a full Synthetic, i will only use Mobil 1 in my twin turbo GTO,and in my Old single turbo Starion, i don't think standard oil is up to the task with all the heat generated by Turbos, especially under high boost.
I use Mobil 1 5w/50 or if i can get it 0w/40 triple synthetic its not cheap at $97.00nz / for 4L but they say its good for 20k never had any problems with Mobil 1 give it a go.The engine will idle smoother and pull better on Synthetic oil, due to less friction. Don,t know if you have Mobil 1 over your way, another good Synthetic oil is Amsoil if you can find it.
