i was at brake masters and they suggested i use penzoil 10w40 high mileage oil since i got 180k on my car. does anyone have any experience using this oil and is it really better? cost $40 for the oil change. wat do you guys recommend and intervals between changes

I don't think it's really needed. The reason is this 1UZ engine is more like a bullet proof engine. Its wear and tear are very minimal comparing to other engines. However, not all 1UZ engines are 100% alike and there's always an exception. A 200K mile 1UZ can still run very strong like new. It may start to have some oil leak at 300K miles. I've read that its 400K miles is when it really shows its old age. 10w40 is very thick so I don't think it's good for the engine. I'd think 5w30 is ok. If you really want to run 10w40, then run synthetic or pre-made part synthetic oil.

I've been buying oil and changing oil by myself and I see 10w40 costs similar to 5w30.

i use the penz 10w30 high mileage
177k or so, i say it cant hurt, i have noticed that it does seem too thick on cold days.
it some times struggles to turn over in the mornings
i change my own oil, and its $16 for 5 quarts at walmart
but i also went 10,000 miles with only changing the filter and it was still light and thick when i changed it last week

so meh
