Hey guys

Can a used ECM be registered with a used transponder ECU (from a different car)? or does one of them need to be new?

There's plenty of Toyota instructions on the internet on how to register them, but they always mention either a new transponder ECU or ECM - though I figured Toyota dealerships would never use second hand parts and therefore not mention them in the instructions.

Cheers,
Alex.

Yes it can.
There must be no DTCs in immobilizer system and key registration must be closed. Valid master key must be supplied.

If all above is ok, TC to E1, ignition on, wait 30 minutes and it's done.

p/s to read immobilizer system DTCs and real time parameters you'll have to source gateway ECU (blue plastic box) from a donor car.
Theft warning ECU is also quite useful thing which will literally shed some light onto what's happening in the immo ECU. By blinking the theft warning system's LED
