    8HP Journey

I think the pics got lost when the site got hacked. Currently, with 400hp at the wheels, the gear ratio multiplication equates to a theoretical: Further to this, with each gear change, there is way less RPM drop, keeping the engine on song Cutting the TCU open with a die grinder required a...

    8HP Journey

Not that I can tell yet Ivan - I'll bring home the Anglemaster from work and refit the plenum tomorrow night to see what angles I've got.

Parts availability in 2026: which OEM bits are getting scary?

Since installing a Haltech I've been progressively selling all the OEM parts on marketplace that will never be used again. In the last 6 months I've made about $2k AUD - a lot of people really want these parts! Fuel parts not so much, but sensors and ignition parts are in demand!

What did you do to your car today?

8HP install... then prepping for Cometic MLS head gaskets and Kelford springs. Parts should arrive tomorrow, and the wife is away for 2 weeks so I should get it done

    8HP Journey

The correct adapter plate finally arrived last week, and I had the engine ready to remove in anticipation. I've seen a number of 8HP swaps end in disaster because nobody set the driveline angles correctly. Mess this up and you can induce a driveline vibration so bad that the gearbox housing...

    Most-bang-for-the-buck 1UZFE Mods

+1 on the Haltech and COP ignition. If the plan is to stay naturally aspirated, the heads eventually become the bottleneck. Yes, headers, intake and a tune to match will help get the best potential out of the engine, but those pissy little valves and FE head design will always impose a ceiling...

What's the weirdest car you've seen a 1UZ swapped into, anywhere in the world?

My car isnt that weird, but some of the wildest conversions I've seen starts with this ST185 Celica Twin Turbo Twin turbo UZ ST185 This little Subaru is also crazy

What does your 1UZ actually sound like? Headers, pipe size, and the tone you're chasing

System for engineering & registration 3.5" from turbo to gearbox, then splits into twin 2" and connects to the factory BMW system (2x cat converters and 3 mufflers) It's so quiet, you would not even know the car is modified... but it's so restrictive that the turbo will stall in 3rd and 4th...

1uzfe knock sensor wiring shielding ground point

The test procedure is simple - measure resistance between the KNK input on the ECU to ground. Spec is 1 mega-ohm (MΩ) or more. I'm not a fan of soldering mission critical wiring - even less for heat shrink solder. Barrel crimps are the go!

1uzfe knock sensor wiring shielding ground point

52 = no knock signal to the ECM for 3 engine revolutions when its between 1600-5200rpm Its is either going to be an open or short in the sensor circuit, the sensor itself or the ECM. Shielding only in there to dissipate interference.

    3URFE overheating issues

First, check to see if the front of the radiator is blocked. It won't cost you anything. Second, is the coolant in good condition, no corrosion, and is the system bled (of air) properly? If it's all good, have the cooling system pressure tested first to be 100% sure there are no leaks. External...

    8HP Journey

Anyone considering this swap, fair warning. Buy the gearbox first and then buy your conversion kit second. There are numerous models of 8HP and the model I ordered was an N57. Turns out that the model I ended up getting was an N63. The dipshit who imported it tried to play innocent but I'm sure...

    8HP Journey

Cutting the TCU open with a die grinder required a good deal of patience steady hands but I got it done without any damage to the internals. With all the internals scraped out, the Turbolamik board drops in nicely. After soldering in all terminals, a quick check with the multimeter to...

    1UZ into E36

I wasn't too keen mounting another control stalk, so I went searching for a flat-mount control button that I could convert. I found one from a VZ Commodore that seemed OK but the facia was curved - so I carefully turned it down in a lathe to get it flat. Turns out, it is exactly the same...

1uzfe knock sensor wiring shielding ground point

In the factory wiring, Shield connects to ground on the engine. In most aftermarket ECUs though, Shield Ground comes from the ECU. As long as all your ground points have good contact, it shouldnt matter... but the more ground points you have - the more possibility there is for problems to arise...
