    thinking out load..112 manifold

Yes, I plan on using that oil cooler to cool the intake charge. Again, I have not put it in yet. I fired the car up and it is currently running without it. You must preheat if you are going to MIG, otherwise your start will be way too cold. But you have to balance how hot you run the MIG and...

    thinking out load..112 manifold

Well, there is the easy way and the RIGHT way. I have surprisingly few pictures of my intake (it was actually one of the simpler items I fabbed for this car, so I guess I didn't think much of it at the time). Here is what I have, I made mine from 3/8" plate. And I didn't TIG this. I took it...

    tiggy weldy

150 A is not enough for 8mm plate. Mine is 200A and it can barely do 1/4" (8mm). Aluminum really soaks up the heat, so it needs way more amperage than steel. Also learning TIG can be tricky, unless you are good at gas welding, in which case you should pick it up quickly. Mark

    thinking out load..112 manifold

I agree. You should build an entire manifold. Here is a pic of mine. You can see how much lower it is--and there is still room for an intercooler core inside. Without an intercooler it could have been lower. I don't know why intakes are always made out of aluminum, but because I used...

    intercooler core for intake manifold

I bought one like this for mine. This size would just fit inside the manifold. I like that the core is very dense because the area in the intake is fairly small. I realize that this may restrict flow somewhat, but that's what boost is for, right...

Representing with a 1UZ at JCCS

Here are a few pictures and a very brief write up of my car. Scroll down a little until you see the black Corolla. http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/10/07/event-gt-gt-jccs-09-pt-3.aspx There was another 1UZ at the show as well. It was in an AE86 Corolla that came down from Canada...

Hey I voted for you!!! I dig your car-I hope mine looks as clean as yours when I am done. Mark

    Few questions on 1uzfe build.

Those are the same ones I'm using with my M112. I have barely begun tuning yet (I'm using a Link ECU), but the injectors seem fine. Smooth idle, and good off idle response. I didn't even have them cleaned or balanced yet--wanted to make sure they would be OK first. Mark

    Changing cams (custom cams)

I seriously doubt it. Most reweld cams are just a slight change to the lobe profile and not very much material needs to be added. You would be building up an entire lobe--which is a lot of material to add by welding. Mark

The "Who are you kidding, that's not even a Corolla anymore" Corolla build. UZE-86

I like it like it is, too bad you can't leave it that way. That's one of the reasons I started from scratch on mine. Body is super low, but stilll have good clearance and suspension geometry. Mark

The "Who are you kidding, that's not even a Corolla anymore" Corolla build. UZE-86

Let me know if you hit Willow. I'll come and watch you run--unless my car is together enough (doubtful), in which case I'll run with you. Mark

The "Who are you kidding, that's not even a Corolla anymore" Corolla build. UZE-86

Hey, you still have lots of Corolla left. Your project is coming along nicely. I am really enjoying all this hardcore fabrication. But why does it seem that everyone else is going so much faster than me? How awesome would it be to get the three old school 1UZ's together (you, Ken and his...

    Has anyone welded Titanium?

I'll bet that finding mandrel bent Ti is pretty hard, if not impossible, especially in a large size like that. Although I agree that it would look much cleaner. Mark

Is it dangerous to remove this???

That ring has the tab that the cam angle sensor reads. I'm pretty sure you need it. Make sure it goes back on exactly the way it was. Mark

    Some pics from Toyotafest

The Lexus area was right in front this year (in '08, they were all the way in the back). This was my favorite Lexus at the show. It was hard to get a good shot of it because the light was not good and the other cars were parked too close. But you get the idea--very dark, very mean...

    Toyotafest--anyone going?

I surprised I haven't heard anthing from you guys about this yet. This Saturday is THE all Toyota car show. It's about half Scions, half old school Toyotas, but last year there were quite a few very nice Lexus there as well. http://www.toyotaclub.org/Toyotafest/toyotafest.htm Mark

    opps it warped..any fixes??

If they are shaped right, you could try bolting the two sides together. If the bolts suck them down flat fairly easily, then you might be OK just putting them on the car. If you put them together the flanges would look like this--(), right? If you really want the flanges flat, you could put...
