    Transaxle conversion

Bloody hell I didn't know that! Well you learn something new everyday. I'd be interested in an image if anyone has one of a C5 engine, torque tube and transmission layout. How interesting as I thought it was predominantly the forte of front engined Porsches and 80's Alfa's. (Expensive exotica...

    Crank trigger question

cjsupra90 I think post 98 is 36-2 (being 1 tooth per 10 degrees) and pre 98 is just 12. There is no minus 1 as think it takes TDC from the cam sensors. I'm not sure of the post 98 design but can tell you the pre 98 is dished about 5mm to 7mm approx from memory, so chances are post 98 could be...

    Crushing 1UZ's

Mate PM me and I'll send you my number and we can talk this through. We might be able to help each other out on this. I can give you the breaker in question who is in London. Just thinking I don't mind helping you out at the yard pulling the engine from the car if you don't mind swapping...

    Crushing 1UZ's

I pulled my front sump off my LS400 engine last weekend and it wasn't too bad, but then the engine was on a stand and spun 180 degrees! ;) I didn't have to bend once! ha ha As it happens it was a pig and to get through Toyotas sealing compund I ended up using a stanley knife as it stuck like...

    Crushing 1UZ's

All wise words indeed. I only need a :censored: ing rear sump and (to be fair) no one is interested unless I can take the whole engine, and then I have to take it out of the body myself! And the best bit is they haven't got any lifting gear! ! ! ! It appears even junk yards want the easy...

Twin Turbo (1 big & 1 small) Lag Elimination

I was wondering how long it would be before someone suggested this. How about properly matched twin turbos for the high end to come on boost just before the 112 runs out of puff?? I don't really care for bling, as long as something goes ok it's fine by me. However.... wouldn't it look the...

    Crushing 1UZ's

A rather unbelievable tale. I've been searching ebay UK for Soarer breaking (parting out) as I need a rear sump and a number have some cars in stock, but.... They strip the cars of any quick selling bits and then crush the body with the engine in!!! I thought I'd be able to steal a few...

Brain faded so a daft question - Cam pulley thread direction???

Hi Guys. My engine is on a stand and much lighter now it's stripped of all the loom, plumbing, exhaust, inlet manifold, sump and starter. Also there is a problem as the cam belt has disintegrated and the head's ain't speaking to the spinning bit underneath!!! :o) So when I put a torque...

    Porsche 944 and Mercedes 280SE, 1969 covernsion

Hi Lambo, Unfortunately I don't think this will help. The 944 has the box in the rear with the link made by a torque tube. The bell housing on the box is different to the other bell housing mating the tube to the engine and that holds the clutch/flywheel. However the 944 internals are good...

Brain faded so a daft question - Cam pulley thread direction???

Thanks Dave. I thought as much but just had second thoughts last night when I was putting loads of pressure on and it wasn't budging. Little alarm bells rang and thought I'd better double check.

Brain faded so a daft question - Cam pulley thread direction???

Been stripping my 1UZ today (and more tomorrow) and been busy untangling millions of shredded bits of cam belt. I bought the engine untested so fair enough, but it's a right pain in the arse and god knows what else I'll find! ! ! ! :censored: I've got brain fade as can't think of the thread...

    MUMMY!!! I had a accident!!!

ergo, straight to the scene of the accident. Breaking in the corner is as bad as over accelerating in a corner. Either way you overload what is at anytime only a small amount of tyre contact patch. Anyway sounds like you learnt your lesson. We've all done it, just don't do it again as second...

    Porsche 944 and Mercedes 280SE, 1969 covernsion

944 I've been working towards a 944 too. So far I have a stripped out shell and an engine and the adapter does look like it's going to be fun. Sump fitment too as the Porsche Cross member is high and roughly just forward of the middle of the engine. Also the 944 4 pot is mounted on a slant...

    All Three Sumps photographed

Thank you God! (gloverman) I've been asking politely for these measurements for months across Lextreme.com, and I know it's sometimes a pain in the arse to get a tape out and crawl under an engine but I was starting to lose the will to live as no one could do it. Anyway Gloverman has come up...
