Any electrical reason to not choose 3UZ?

Well, the LS430 has gone :( So, it;s back to trawling ebay for LS400s :) I've been avoiding 94 to 97, as these are neither stronger internals nor VVTi (worth quite a few horses out of the box). That said, I'm not likely to go forced induction with this. It'll be in something light, and...

Any electrical reason to not choose 3UZ?

Cheers, George. Plan is to source a complete vehicle and cruise around in it for a few months first :D So, aside from the immobiliser, there's no other worries with removing gearbox etc?

Any electrical reason to not choose 3UZ?

A 3UZ has become available to me, and I'm considering using this instead of sourcing a 1UZ. I'm aware of the differences in internals across the early 1UZ, later 1UZ and then of course VVTi on the latest 1UZ and 3UZ. I'm almost certainly not going to go forced induction, so later 1UZ is a...

1997 LS400 donor. What to look for?

Are Soarers going to be subject to the same principle? Pre 93 stronger internals, post 98 VVTi?

1997 LS400 donor. What to look for?

Hmmm, OK, thanks. Wondering if I should keep looking? How tunable are the non VVT later engines? How less strong than the early engines are they?

1997 LS400 donor. What to look for?

Reckon that I have found my donor. 117k miles, had an easy life, and the right price with enough tax and test for me to run it as a daily for a few months. What are the implications of it being a '97? I believe that '98 on had VVT, and early engines were stronger. Would "early" include '97...

How many miles is too many miles

Yeah - seen them :D They use the the Supra boxes. I'm trying to avoid moving away from the Mazda box. More work mating the engine to the box, but less in terms of mating the gearbox to the chassis and diff and making the box fit.

How many miles is too many miles

Cheers - thanks for that. I may want to go forced induction, but more likely I'd look at ITBs if I were going to tune it. Earlier donors seem to come up at significantly cheaper prices, and headers will probably be custom anyway. Out of interest, what's the difference in stock power between the...

How many miles is too many miles

Thanks for the replies :) So, engine wise, 200,000 miles is nothing to worry about, which is about 300,000km. What's the benefit of the later 1998+? I'm looking for a donor, so a tired shell and interior would help to drive down price. Looking to spend around £500. Pull the engine out...

How many miles is too many miles

There are a lot of bargain LS400s to be had, but some have epically high mileage (200,000+). Are the engines particularly shoddy over a certain mileage, with lots to go wrong, or do they just run forever?

Another newbie hunting for a 1uz

Hello :) Arrived here after being recommended by a friend. Looking to V8 my MX5 (Miata), but instead of going down the Supra box route which I know is quite common, or the 200SX box which others do, I'm looking to use the MX5 6 speed box and TorSen diff. Both good for over 300lbft and that's...
