White / black wires - are they all grounds?

Most of them seem to be, but then I have a load left that I can no longer trace to an earthing point (slight over exuberance when first cutting stuff out... :D ) Is it safe to assume that anything white with a black line is going to need to be grounded? Car is a 1998 LS400 with VVTi...

1998 LS400 - How to power the front seats up?

Found it :D For anyone else who stumbles across this post. On each side loom (along the sill) there's a branch of loom that goes under the seat. Of the bunch of wires, there are two that are larger (and the same gauge as each other). Ground the white/black wire, put 12V to the blue/red and your...

1998 LS400 - How to power the front seats up?

Bit of a dumb ass move - I've removed most of the loom now, but haven't removed the seats  So, where does the power to the seats run? Is it on of the the looms that runs down the sides, or the one that goes down the centre? Any guesses as to which wire, if given 12v, will...

What's the minimum I need for a running VVTi?

Ok, cheers. So no vacuum adjust on fuel pressure?

What's the minimum I need for a running VVTi?

Cool, cheers, George. I've got an FPR here that I can use. How is pressure regulated on the standard set up?

What's the minimum I need for a running VVTi?

Am I right in saying that I just need ECU, engine (including sensors), key, immobiliser and ignition barrel, and then just add 12v and fuel? Is there anything else I need for a 1998 VVTi LS400? MPX?

I really screwed this up - help please!!

Cheers, Vince. Yeah, I had a look at that this morning. I woke up really hoping I'd just knocked the thing out of Park, but nothing so simple. Got 12V on the STA feed into the ECU, although wierdly, I get 12v even if I put it in Drive, so I guess I've got something wrong, although it was all a...

I really screwed this up - help please!!

Immobiliser is still plumbed in, and am still using the original key and barrel. Would the immobiliser cause the engine to not even turn over. From memory (when I was messing about ages ago, reprogramming a spare key) the engine would turn but not fire.

I really screwed this up - help please!!

OK - So I thought I was going about this the right way. My plan was to stip back the wiring loom in the car, tracing wires back until I had the bare minimum, and then get the engine out, the loom out, plug it all together on the workshop floor and fire it up, before getting things running...

    Tuning for LESS power....?

I reckon this sort of thing should do it... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restrictor_plate

    Tuning for LESS power....?

Would you put it before or after the MAF or throttle, or does it not make any odds?

    Tuning for LESS power....?

:) Not an unreasonable suggestion! Maybe something less mobile than a brick though....

    Tuning for LESS power....?

Perhaps not such an odd question. I'll need to uprate a couple of items in my project, but before I spend money on those, the priority is getting the engine mated, installed and the car running on a few trackdays. Problem is, some of the stock items are going to get lunched after about 200lbft...

Any possibility of getting Tapatalk enabled on the forum? Would make mobile access sooo much easier!

    Running with drive-by-wire throttle

Thanks, so are you saying that I just stick a mechanical throttle on, but keep the motor in the loom and put 12v to it to stop the ECU getting upset? Or is it a case of using the DBW throttle-body, but putting 12v to it so that it mimics the pedal position?

    Running with drive-by-wire throttle

So, I have my VVTi 1UZ. Currently trundling around in it until the summer when the strip down begins. :) The VVTi has, I believe, a FBW throttle. How does the control work. Is it a direct linear relationship between pedal position and throttle position, or does the ECU look at your foot and...

Any electrical reason to not choose 3UZ?

    1uz VVTi bought.1998 LS400, £700, 150k miles, reversed into a lamp post :D

Any electrical reason to not choose 3UZ?

Thanks gloverman - actually, it was exactly the nudge I was hoping for :) VVTi it is. Just got to weigh up whether to go 1UZ VVTi or chance it on a cheap 3UZ (not that there is one at the moment)

Any electrical reason to not choose 3UZ?

Thanks :) Are they as tunable (without forced induction)? How easy is it to make up the extra 30BHP that the VVTi has out-of-the-box?

Any electrical reason to not choose 3UZ?

LOADS of LS400s to pick from, just trying to find the right one. They either have moon miles, are too far away or no tax / test.
