On the replacement motor, do the timing belt, waterpump, distributor rotors, idler bearing, spark plugs and leads etc. You'll have that motor in your ute for longer than you think, so it may as well be a reliable one.
I'm guessing that you saw this thread: http://lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8771
It's an RX7, albeit a much much older version, and although the parts are completely different it might give you some ideas.

Is the 1UZ in a conversion? If so has it ever run right?
The cold start injector only works when cranking (if wired correctly)
If it's running rubbish when hot, perhaps the ecu temperature sender (green one on water bridge) is stuffed. To check if the sender is working, check its voltage. It...
Cheers for the comments lads.
4000GT - Motosoc is putting on a dyno day at NZEFI this Saturday. Either me or Chris will likely take the RX7 down and see what it does. I'm not expecting much, seeing as everything is completely standard on the engine and it's running the factory ecu, but it will...
Cheers Andrew.
The driveshaft is one piece and was made and balanced at circle track with (supposedly) new universals. The car has a hilux diff.
Have you had trouble with Circle track's work?
Good point Justen, we'll look at rebalancing the shaft if nothing obvious presents itself. It's quite possible that one of the wheel weights has gone MIA, I suppose the one of the drive shaft universals could be worn too. Will check it out.
Hi all.
We took the 1UZRX7 to the track for the first time last Friday, to iron out any bugs and get the car set up properly. The car went well and felt pretty good. There's an interesting vibration coming from the rear once the car reaches about 110Mph, the source of which we need to identify...

The 1UZ starter motor in my ute is getting a birthday this week. The ute has been sitting for about a month, and yesterday I got a mate to back it out of the shed so we could go and pick up some car parts. He didn't know about a kill switch I have that isolates the ignitors etc and so the ute...
There's plenty of home built versions on youtube. I actually helped a student build a controller for one last week, the cell used concentric tubes and water. I am very dubious about how well the generators work, it seems a lot of energy is required to create a few bubbles of hydrogen, so don't...
I checked out the links in your original post and found it very very interesting. Reading the powerpoint presentation in conjunction with the two executables does give you a pretty good understanding of the concept, and that the inventor gives so much information free shows just how much he...
Unlikely. The higher resistance may just be in the accuracy of your multi-meter. What does your multimeter read when you short the probes together? It's also unlikely that both would fail and give the same readings.
It won't start if it doesn't get the crank signal. If the ecu doesn't see that...
Looking good.
From the pics above, how much movement is there between your radiator fan and radiator? It looks like the brackets are a bit long and skinny and could maybe do with a rework. I'm thinking that over time with movement it could rub through.
