If they blow smoke it's proberbly because they are sucking it into the engine and burning it and thats why the fliud is low. Cars should not consume Power steering fluid if all is well. I dont have any photos of it, but if you find the vacume hose that runs from the bottom of the power steering...

It's only a 2 second job to check for this, it's something that everyone with one of these engines should do. At start up could be from something else like valve stems.

Ive got a complete 4V sitting in my shed with auto that I brought from a wrecker many years ago for my hilux before the 1UZ became easier to get. By the time i got around to doing it i decided that a crown front cut was the way to go. If anyone needs any bits please PM me.

I get around 600kms from a full tank, I only got 420-450kms when it was a carby 4cyl.

Check the wiring all the way to the knock sensor before condeming the sensor. I have seen plenty of 1UZ's log a knock sensor code but I have never had to change one. The most common fault that I have come across is rats and mice eating the insulation off the knock sensor wiring. Don't laugh but...

Got it sorted, two wires that go to the gearbox selector are for grounding the starter relay (one in and one out), B+ wire still goes from starter relay to the starter motor. Colour codes are black/blue & black/white.
