Standalone ECU 1UZFE 36-1 Trigger Wheel and Megasquirt

I have ran edis from toyota, and subaru vr sensors. They are not that picky.

Just grind off 1 or 2, and use 4 vb921 coil drivers. You get the added function of a soft and hard rev limiter that you don't get with edis. Don't get me wrong, edis is a VERY robust and reliable system. You will have less problems getting a clean tach signal with edis, but it is a lot easier to...

How did you center the two parts together before you drilled and taped the holes? Regarding the missing tooth, it needs to be 50 degrees btdc. I'm not sure how that relates to the keyway.

runout Looking at the pictures, I don't see any step that would center the wheel. How did you do that? The reason that i brought this up is to let everyone know that it is very important that the trigger wheel not have excessive runout.I don't know how much is too much, just that if is too...

dissy I'm with getting rid of the dissy' also. Just do a 36-1 wheel and do edis with megasquirt. It works well and is very reliable. BTDT

I build and sell them with wiring harness for many different engines, but I'm not cheap. If you can make your own harness, you can buy an assembled ms from several places for a lot less. I am in the 951 area.

Do a search on posts from me. I explained it in another thread.

The only one I did was a year or so back. It was a v2.2 ms setup with edis. Yours will be better in that you will have a rev limiter function.

choices BTW, you don't really need a 36-1 wheel, or edis. An 8-1 would work just fine for wasted spark. Just set it up so the trigger is around 60 degrees btdc.

I couldn't agree more! I've done a dozen or so megasquirts as well. In the right hands, they are extremely capable. Even in the hands of a novice (with a little help) they are still a much better deal than anything else out there. My 1uz motor project is still running strong after two...

Actually the v3 board only has one vb921 coil driver in it. You have the choice of adding three more which requires mounting, and wiring, or using external igniter modules which is easier. If you were to have cop's with built in drivers like the 6 cylinder subaru I just did with a wasted spark...

Do a search on msefi.com . There is a guy that has one running with the dual dissy setup. It has three triggers. The edis setup is a bit easier though. I'm getting ready to do another one for a friend that will not use edis or dissy's

Sorry, I don't know if the vvti wheel will bolt on the earlier 1uz. I have found on several different engines that the vr sensors are usually compatible with edis. The motor I used was the marine one .It has vvt heads and early strong 1uz rods.

Standalone ECU Megasquirt- sorting out the details

You can, if you remove the trigger wheel, and tig weld up on another tooth. You also have to file a new notch for the key to reindex it. Then it will work with edis. This is how I did it.

If you want to use a megasquirt, then there is a definite advantage to using the later wheel. You can either weld up an extra tooth like I did, and use ford edis components for spark, or leave it as a 36-2 , and use the tooth decoder setup. You could also just mount a simple 8-1 wheel.. That is...
