If you're willing to build make a couple harnesses, I'd gladly pony up the $$$. That is the only hurdle I am facing with my 1uz baja bug. Using a stock ECU, and factory wiring. I don't need more than 250hp, the transaxle won't like it.
Here is the post from UZSwap.com. I've tried to email these guys to no avail. There's a youtube video of the motor running on a stand in a guy's backyard. If some hillbilly in Kentucky can get it to run, it can't be that hard. 5 wires get power, outside of all the standard connections to...
wow. 1k is a steal, and you can send it to the wrecking yard when you're done. I might go this route just for ease. What the wrecking yard will but the rest of the car for, you can buy another JDM motor.
The going rate for a stand alone harness is $500+. This is after talking to a couple shops. The price from a wrecking yard is $150 +/-. You're better off going through the diagrams, and making your own. These are simpler than GM harnesses.
on car-part.com, they have complete harnessess for under $300. I'm betting you could get the harness and ECM for that. Just make sure it's the same year as the motor you bought. If I can find it, I will post the wiring to get it to run. Rumor has it that 5 wires to power will run it, then...
But what if you're not using a factory style fuel cell, and need an external pump, then tune it down with a regulator? Off-road/ race legal fuel cells do not work with factory pumps.
I am putting a 1uzfe in a buggy/ manx. I have everything figured out except the fuel pump/ system. I know the motor needs 44psi@WOT. These motors are cheap and plentiful here in So Cal. What class do you plan to race? 1450?
After reading for about 3 solid hours, This seems pretty simple. I've cut down GM harnesses for other projects, this doesn't look any worse. You can get a complete motor with ECU and harness for $600 in CA. These motors are plentiful. The only thing I haven't nailed down is the fuel pump...
