As above really. That's all I need to know. Original plan was to use the 2.8 Pajero box for my conversion but I've got first refusal on a tiptronic auto box from a 3.5GDI for a really good price. Tried to call Mitsi but they said they can't help me unless I have VIN or registration numbers...
Even Toyota themselves are doing it. They've built a Dakar replica truck by taking a 5.0V8 from a Lexus IS-F and putting it into a production Hilux. They even kept the Diesel transmission and diffs.

Cheers guys I appreciate the help. I have since found out that Total Motor Factors sell the kit. But no other motor factors do. And even TMF list the water pump as obsolete.
I've noticed a kit from Oz includes a "seal kit." That's a crank shaft seal I'm guessing, but what else would it be...
I can't be the first person to realise how difficult it is to find a belt, tensioner, and water pump kit for a 1UZ in the UK? Outside of Lexus dealerships.
Where do all you Brits get them from? Do you order from abroad? If so where?
Any help appreciated.
After illness reared its ugly head I'm glad to say this conversion is finally back on.
The company doing the conversions for me have done 1UZ's into all sort of cars so they know their way around these engines. Following their advice I've ordered a Spit-Tronics ECU and TCU which apparently...
Just a 2.5TD. They're kinda known for it. I got wind of the 1UZ being genuinely viable and I went after like a Bull! Just a matter of time now....
Stories like this one you found are always encouraging though:D
Been doing some gear and final drive ratio calculations for the conversion. Can any one tell me the most economical motorway cruising speed for an LS400? And what the engine is revving at?
My engine in my truck did 120,000miles then went bang. If you near 100,000 miles with a 2.5 in my truck it's just a ticking time bomb. This, and this thread, is why I am putting a 1Uz in it's place!:D
Thanks for the info. I'll have a read of that thread later.
What issue do the Mitsi boxes give?
As you can see Bushwacker and myself have decided on using the Lexus box with my transfer case anyway. I reckon given the gear ratios of the standard manual box that using the auto from the...
I'm sold on the quality of the engine. Read enough about it now to trust what I'm getting. In fact that's the biggest motivation. The 4D56 in the L200 is a pile of poop! I'm on my second one and having problems with that now!
The bonus side is you end up with a V8 pick up truck:D Which is...
Pajman, Bushwacker who commented earlier on this thread is the chap who will be doing my conversion. I had no idea he was on here too:D
Looks like auto is the way to go then. Regarding the ECU situation, I'm certain Vince has that all taken care of.
Interesting how there seems to be more...
