A650/E - 5 Speed

Hi there,

I just got hand on a Benz W123 with a 1UZ-vvt-i swap already done.
Engine runs fine just the transmission seems not to work as I thought. Somehow lame !
It is the original A650E tranny.
the car still got the original benz shifter console.
No switch for o/d, no switch for pwr/snow.
is it possible the the mechanic just cut the wires and the car runs now permanent on o/d (on) and snow modus ?
does anybody know the wiring - colors and where to check ?
pwr/snow can be in permanent pwr-mode. we do not have snow in Thailand.

o/d i would prefer to have a switch.

They normally perform very well. Just drove a vehicle with one yesterday and I was very please with it. The 4.3 in front helped.

Not sure it is possible to wire the snw switch on all the time but I prefer to use the correct shifter so the box can be dropped out of 5th into 4th. They also run a shift ECU inside the shifter itself so this could be your issue.


Are there any diagnostic codes present?

4/D and 2/L shifts can be performed with the proper mechanical lever position (D and 2 correspondingly), by flicking properly wired swithes.

If the engine donor is an LS400 or UCF21, SNW/PWR switches can also be wired.
