2008 GS460 tick??

I have a 2008 GS460. And during a cold start there is a noticeable rapid tick/click on cold starts. We replaced.the VVT solenoids yesterday and it didn't help. It's very odd, almost intermittent but not. Car has 140k on it and no mechanical issues. Put a snap on scanner on it and no codes. Someone please enlighten me.

Could be it needs a valve adjustment?

It doesn't follow rpms at all. And only happens when cold. Maybe tick isn't the correct term. It's odd. Comes from the driver's side of the engine bay only.

Valve clearances would be the first thing I would check

What else has lash that could click?

Agreed, @ 140K, valve clearance is probably your culpret. Why not give the engine an oil change. You could also add a little Lucas Heavy duty oil stabiliser to the mix. Adding say 1/2 litre with your new oil will most likely shut it up.
