I have just found a way I can make 180 degree headers on my 1uz.

But the question is, is it worth it when I am using turbo? I assume it will spool faster.

How about 180 haeders, twin turbo and twin exhaust?

by 180º headers, you mean putting the left on the right - and the right on the left?

i did this for my proposed twin turbo setup. it works just fine for a mild / medium turbo setup. obviously nothing is as good as a tuned length setup, but for the $$$ saved, it is a VERY attractive option for a budget engine.

i would say, for the money outlay, how can you NOT afford to do it?

get it up and running, and if it makes your required power level, then hey! you came out saving some serious money and time.

if it ends up being a restriction, it was only ever a stop gap idea anyway...right? :) and NOW you know you need better headers and you're not paying for something you may not have needed.

by just reversing your headers, you could buy a whole new ballbearing turbo with the money saved.

Its all depending on what car frame/chasis you are trying to put this twin turbo headers into. By flipping it 180 degree it would not directly bolt on the car unless you have a very wide engine bay. For the Soarer or Celsior it would not work. The header/cat flange would hit the firewall. Cutting it would be ok. Here is an article about this topic. http://www.lextreme.com/crown.html

He means combining cylinders from both banks to form two groups which fire alternately. This could also improve response on a big single with a split pulse turbine housing, but I dont know if it would be worth the trouble.

Let us know how you go!

I had a dig on info i have on 180 headers as thats what i will use, basically the 1uz is the same fire pattern as the SBC , so you take the centre two of each bank and cross them over to the other side, as my soarer motor is rear sump i will run under the sump at the front to get across to the other side.Just group 4 pipes together under the sump and join on, i have found some old bits of info that cover it, i am mainly doing it to get the V12 ish sound from my 1uz, the thorley article helps alot. and theres a picure of a GT40 xover.

Th set up Pro and Lextreme is talking about, is the way I am running now. It works perfect as a budget, I agree.

But what I am thinking about, is the last mentioned setup, where two and two runners join together from each head. Just like you Lambo, I had planned to make the runners go under the sump. But I would need to go behind the x-member.

Problem is that I would need to use v-band or similiar to be able to disassemble the two headers. And it would make alot of heat, something I do not need more of under my hood!

the bundle-of-snakes exhaust system really changes the sound of a V8, or so ive heard.

Curious - Is anyone manufacturing reverse headers for turbo applications yet for the 1uz-fe powered cars? If so that would be a good step in order to build a turbo setup, it would attract more interest that is for sure.....Making headers to point in the other direction is challenging for some manufactures..Anyone know anything here?

The Dunns did a similar setup on a GT40 in Timaru recently. Pretty cool.

I've been fortunate enough to ride in and drive this GT40 replica several times. It has a SBF, punched out to 347ci, and it has the 180 setup. It's a different sound for sure - IMO it's more raw and guttural than the normal SBF. People who are diehard V8 fans really seem to like it; personally it's a bit too raw for me - it's kinda like the Harley sound vs a rice rocket. You can hear nearly every pulse of the V8.
