i have been going through alot of posts on idle and afm issues...

i originally had big missing issues... rig would accelerate without missing massively. I unplugged the afm and it was running fine, rich, but fine.

i am currently on my 2nd afm and the rig has started to miss again... (was working fine for around 8months or so)

i unplugged the afm and again it ran fine. I first noticed it happened when cruising at hwy speeds and i would get a random miss here and there... now it seems to happen quiet frequently.

my question is...

-are the afm's dodgy?
-have i had bad luck with 2nd afm's?
-is there something that i am running the could cause them to stop working?

atm my oxy's are not working but other than that no codes.

thanks

is there any increase in power running off a base map with out airflow meter... is it even driveable... ? does it use conciderable more fuel....

its driveable... it does use alot a fuel... but it has always been like that.

there is better constant power with it unplugged... if this helps.

Sounds very much like a problem I had for months after doing my conversion. I changed pretty much everything including the AFM, but there was no change. In the end I got another AFM and it fixed the problem, so I can only assume the second AFM I tried was buggered as well. I still have a slight flat spot on initial acceleration, but the missing on the freeway has stopped.

Looking at the AFM, they look fairly bullet proof, with only the one probe sticking down into the alloy housing, but there have been many posts from people with AFM problems (Nemesis being one), so maybe they are prone to problems.

I have recently taken to driving with the AFM unplugged again and it is nice to have the motor run well again, albeit a little thirstily. Am thinking of buying a brand new AFM and seeing if that lasts better than the second hand one I've got now.

A new one is over AU$1000 though I enquired a while ago.

For the same money you could get something like the MAP-ECU2 and delete the MAF altogether, whilst tuning for more power and better cruise economy.
