Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Not necessarily, High resistance roller setting, will not change your HP figures, if anything it might actually improve dyno HP numbers! Modern dyno’s like this compute wheel torque against engine RPM to arrive at HP, it doesn’t matter if you are in 1st gear or 6th + overdrive,. And again...

broken rod/piston Looks like the piston overheated at the top, expanded, tried to sieze and was then pulled apart, the rod broke as a result.

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Sorry to hear about that, though I tend to agree with JustenGT8, I ran stock rods at upto 20psi with a large turbo regularly but not over 6500RPM, it ran around 550 HP. No problems with months of thrashing on the street. You can see in your picture where the piston has impacted on the squish...

Another update on rdms TT sc400..

Iv'e Just seen this thread, the 880 HP run was done with the stock intake, I have a short runner style fabricated intake under construction, hope to be finished soon for more testing. Looking for a bigger turbo too.

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

Fasteddie, Cams are 272/272. Re: stock intake, why surprising? Torque curve or peak torque? Though I am pretty sure a short runner new plenum will keep VE and torque up above the 6K point. Fueling requiement is down above 6.5K on this boost level but that also could be due to the small turbine.

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

For JBrady, re-post of dyno pull notes. Notes about this run: Not a particularly good pull, we had a tire slipping problem, can be seen on torque sharp dips after 4.9K. Damaged a tire on the dyno so could not do further runs at this session. Having to use a high gear, Dyno speed limit was...

The Intake manufold is still under constuction, might be at least a few more weeks.

    5.2L Stroker

Nice, I admire this kind of commitement. What kind of boost & HP are you expecting to run by going to this level. In your experience what was the issue with the stock block, head seal? or general block integrity, not enough meat for big studs, block splitting apart etc? Ever thought about...

    5.2L Stroker

No, that won't have issues. But no water passages, 1/4 mile use only, no street use, right? How much ? Availability?

    5.2L Stroker

Thanks Ed, Interesting, it looks like the big bore sleeve mod is not quite out of the experimental stage. I believe once it is sorted higher boost levels may not be an issue.

    5.2L Stroker

Thanks for the prompt info, any more details on exactly what "little issue" was wrong with those sleeves? BTW I don't mean the stroker version, I just mean an over bore re-sleeve build, so we would have a 4.7L motor and with stock crank. The pistons would be custom and dished to obtain 8.5:1 CR...

    5.2L Stroker

Hi David, Wonder do you or does anyone already have the 1UZ @ 3.75" - over bore motor running relaibly on boost, preferably say 26 psi up? Before attempting, I am considering head gasket seal relaibilty. If you look at the 1UZ heads they measure 105mm between water passages, so we only have...

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

I purchased the short runners from Damian at a1turbos in NZ www.a1turbos.co.nz Though I will need to fabricate the plenum section myself.

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

I take it your 7/8" is a typo. I used 7/16 ARP studs for this motor. I have 1/2" ARP's ready for the next build. IMO, 75 - 80lb is about the safe limit for 10mm ARP and the block threads

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

Thanks Full-Race Geoff. Yeh we pretty much figured that back pressure was a major part of the problem, Im keeping the boost down for now until I procure a larger turbo. Other than that Ive got things under control for now, new design MLS gaskets, new threads in the block and the use of much...

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

Yes the intake its self is a little off-topic. However, I wonder at which point does the stock intake, throttle & long dog leg runners become a significant restriction? Without test data etc I guess it’s probably OK up to the 850 hp region? A restrictive intake is going to require more boost...

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

That’s some nice reading, will study it. The Garrett GT45 Turbo I have has a comp wheel fitted from a GT42, this was done by our local Garrett dealer. They didn’t have the 108 wheel available. I have several combinations that I’ve used in the past= GT42+94/70, GT42+102/76, GT45+94/70 and...

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

Thanks for the tips cribbj, I have some ARP 1/2" studs on order. I will finish up with O rings if necessary. Your right it makes sense the 2J head can take high boost, so why can't the 1UZ with the same stud to bore ratio. I might be in touch with you again. Some pics, the installation is kind...

1uz head seal vs 2uz iron block strength @ 30+PSI

I am still using a 1UZ alloy block at this point in time. Sorry my first post may have been misleading. Yes I’m using Cometics/MLS gaskets, I was only thinking of going with the iron block if there is any significant advantage such more strength under high boost and a better head gasket seal...
