yes indeed thousands saved thanks for all the help. ended up being the driver side coil which took me 30 min to find cause i didn't know where to look. but as soon as i fould it, it was too easy. i know i'm on the verge of repetitive but thanks again.

wow, i'm glad that i didn't go blindly changing the engine out as the mechanic said had to be done. i just checked the driver side plugs, to find that the two out side plugs had no spark and the middle two do. so i got a coil that shoud be be here tommorrow and that should hopefully be it ...

first - thanks for all the responces they're really helping, as soon as i get out of class today i'm going to chsck for spark then throw a timing light on it and if that doesn't tell me anything i'll doa leakdown test so i should know alot more by tonight i'll post as soon as i know more

i posted earlier about a possible head gasket problem. now i have the car in my hands and have started taking it a part to replace the engine. i drained the oil, and it looks fine but the radiator fluid is reddish and has a slippery feel to it like it might have oil in it. so does this scream...

alright so i kinda got the report on what was wrong unfortunately i'm at college and the car is in my home town so i have to hear this from the mechanic to my brother (who doesn't understand cars) then to me. so here it is- the feeling from the car it was overheating and had a noticible loss...

thats what i thought too. the motor only has 135,000 miles on it and from what i've read this doesn't sound the least bit typical of this engine. i'll give the mechanic a call tommorow and get the specifics on the reasoning. -thanks for the reply

My ls400 started having problem so it was taken to the shop, the people at the shop who i completely trust say that the head gasket is gone and that the pistons may have also been damaged. so here is the question. can i change the head gasket myself?... the reason i ask is because i cant find...
