    92LS400 Dainty Little Dither

Oil quality is a sweet translucent red. I know there is not a shift of any sort every time you hit the gas, but does the torque converter lock-up use a clutch pack? I am getting this weird slight engine-up-back-down hesitation in lower gears too. Now I am confused. Colin

    92LS400 Dainty Little Dither

I love this car. 124,595 miles on it this morning, everything works beautifully but . . . . a whisper of a delay in torque-converter lock-up. Every single application of accelerator comes with an almost imperceptible "slip" of engine rpm ^ before it goes back down and pulls the car...

    Got Speedo/Tach/Fuel/Temp Needles Glowining

I am very happy. Soldered in a new A/C-Clock display from Lextreme for $160.00 and he threw in five light bulbs, which allowed me to sneak one in for the emergency flasher switch, looks great . . . . . . which made me want to tackle the tach/fuel needles that were only half-lit. Took the...

I do not. I have the manual. I could not tolerate this car without it. Colin

    steering issue...bushings? pump?

Turn steering wheel to lock with engine at idle. Does the pump load up as you hit the stop? Problem in linkage. No change in pump sound? P/S assist issue. Raise front of car off ground. You should be able to shove tire from left to right without undue effort. If it steers nice and light here...

    help please

I would perform the resistance tests in the workshop manual on the intake air temp sensor to either blame it or move on to the next step. On the LS400, which is all I got to go on here, the ECU plug terminals THA to E2 should have a resistance of 2-3 k-ohms at 68* ambient. Colin

    91 LS400 Heater/coolant issue!

This sounds like a classic case of restricted water flow through the heater core. It could be as simple as a cable clamp at the heater valve having slipped and not allowing the heater valve lever to fully open, or it could be an internal clog, or most ominously . . . you might have a coolant...

    help please

Okay the problem was your sparkplug wires, thanks to Lextreme and Mike C4C5 who pointed that easily observable problem out to you, right? Now we are back to not-so-observable symptoms that cannot be easily answered by keyboard diagnosticians. You *can* run a diagnostic with no more than a...

UCF11 Celsior wont idle, hesitation and missfire.

This is normal behavior with an unplugged AFM. This is not surprising with Karmann vortex generator AFMs, they use delicate laser/mirror to read light deflections in air turbulence. Get thee a Known Good Unit to test further. I would suggest that you ratchet up your inquiry from simple...

    help please

Run a diagnostic code check any time you have a check engine malfunction. Once you decide to enjoy a sophisticated automobile, you must also diagnose said sophisticated automobile with the sophisticated diagnostic tools at your disposal . . . otherwise you will demoralize yourself in short...

    1UZFE V8 clacking redux

UPDATE: I threw myself to the wolves instead, and disassembled the engine down to the camshafts (a good time to replace the timing belt so I did). After recording all valve adjustments, I removed the camshafts and lifter "buckets" or "tappets" or whatever and laid them out all along the...

    Loosing Power after rebuild

Often, aftermarket cylinder honing/piston rings have much more friction than a factory build. Let the rings break in, and you may find your power improves after 500-1,000 miles. Colin

    1UZFE V8 clacking redux

I have read on many Lexus sites the complaint of clicking ticking engines. I watched a posted You-Tube video of an IS300 clacking away in exactly the same manner as my '92 LS400 with 105,000 miles. Many have mentioned that it seemed to be the #7 intakes (back left). My LS400 had this very...
