Your'e correct, the guide bosses are the large areas of casting that "guide" the valve stem down into the intake path. You can take a lot of material out in these. Intake side as well as exhaust. Take the ridges out right behind the valve seats while your at it.

We won't be using this intake, we just made it for fun. Our motor will be FI and the intake we will be using has new runners (slight bend) going upwards into two plenums.

Are you looking for factory runners, or aluminum tubes that you can use to build your own runners? Burnsstainless.com has aluminum tubes, U-bends and such. Bit pricey though...

Does the 2JZ valve spring fit the 1UZ retainer, or will we need 2JZ retainers as well? Also, does the $4.xx you posted for stock springs in your link include retainers? If not, HorsePowerFreaks sells OEM 2JZ springs for $3.98 and retainers for $2.77. Saves a few bucks if that $4.xx you posted...

Ah yes, my mistake. The 1UZ ring gear was heat shrunk on to the mk3 flywheel and then redrilled to work with the 1UZ starter.
