    1UZ into E36

After waiting months for a Transgo shift kit (US) and A343 valve body gaskets (Ukraine), the transmission is now back together, and it should be driving over the next few days. I've drilled out the centre plate ports to the "hot rod" spec size so shifts would be tight. Will be interesting to see...

    In-Car Valve Body Replacement

Having swapped valve bodies a few times now with the transmission still in the car, I thought it might be useful to share some hints. Thanks to gravity and kinetic energy, as soon as the valve body is removed from the transmission housing, 3 out of the 4 accumulator pistons will normally fall...

94 LS400 - sluggish acceleration, and low RPM pinging

In my experience, their either work, or they don't. There is always an exception to the rule though! Good to hear you found the solution.

    1uz upgrades for my swaps

Cams, headwork and a bump in compression would only get you to around 300rwhp. If you are after 400-450, turbo or supercharger is the way to go. For the cost of pistons, porting, valves kelford cams and a good ITB set, you're nearly there with forced induction always. You'd need an aftermarket...

    1uz-fe no injection pulse

Not sure if 1 and 3 are in the same group but diagnosis is fairly simple. Remove the connectors and test the pins - one pin should have 12v with ign switched on, the other should have less than 1 ohm of resistance back to the corrosponding ECU pin.

Some OBDII and Data Link questions

SIL runs up to 7V to ensure your scope if set to the correct voltage and 1ms/div should be fine for time.

Some OBDII and Data Link questions

Just checked some old training material and I can confirm that your ECU runs 3 types of multiplex: BEAN (Body Electronics Area Network) via the pins MPX1 and MPX2 This was for ECM to body control communication - like AC on/off, etc UART (Universal Asynchronous Receive & Transmit) via the pins...

Some OBDII and Data Link questions

Generic OBD-II reads predominately from CAN hi & lo - which your ECU pinout doesn't seem to have. From memory, SIL was only used for Transponder Key ECU, Telematics, TPMS etc anyway. The standards to OBD-II are: Pin2 Bus Positive Pin4 Chassis Ground Pin5 Signal Ground Pin6 CAN hi Pin7 K-Line...

    Lexus Diagnostic Signals Chart 1UZ-FE

Cleaning out the garage and stumbled across this gem - an A1 size (594mm x 841mm) 1991 Lexus Technical Training poster for 1UZ diagnostics. The poster shows pinouts, internal circuitry, DTCs, oscilloscope patterns, It's printed on a huge plastic sheet, designed for use on top of an overhead...

Fuel Regulator Vacuum Switching Valve needed or not?

My understanding is that the Fuel Pressure VSV will open when the cold-start injector is switched on, to drop FPR line vacuum and cause a fuel pressure increase. Cold-start injectors don't normally pulse like a cylinder injector - they turn on and spray like a fire hose. The pressure leak would...

    1uz-fe no injection pulse

Injector pulse is created when the ECU switches the injector circuits to ground. It uses the same input signals as the ignition circuit (cam & crank sensors) to determine engine position, and then calculates which injector drivers (transistors) to switch on/off. If you have ignition spark but...

    Sc430 Rubber propshaft doughnuts

Yep it's normal for them to be difficult to remove. Once you have the 6 bolts out it's gonna be a case of gentle force... especially if you plan on reusing them. Use the bolts in place to lever the dowels out

    1UZ into E36

The diff is an R200 from a skyline so it should be up to the task. I'm more worried about the transmission though! Tyres are a consumable item

    1UZ into E36

Roads are dry today and the sun is shining I changed the wastegate to the 14psi spring today and took it for some self-tuning. Mixtures are fat and the long-term trim is progressively bringing them down. Throttle response is improving, timing is very safe, and zero knocks detected. So, how does...

    1UZ Code 14 and 15 but runs?

If the ECU is registering a loss of signal on IGF, it will cut the injector until the signal returns. It's programmed to do this to protect the cat converters from melting. ECUs, coils and igniters aside, this can be caused by a poor connection, open circuit or short circuit on IGF. Get a scope...

1992 SC400 good Alternator not charging (missing relay?)

There shouldn't be any relays required to make the alternator work.
