    Project MV8R a V8 into a 1991-1999 MR2

Yeah, I couldn't see anything in the forum without registering... Deffinitly a nice swap. Being that me and Jake are right close to eachother and only a couple hrs south of Mike, I think Jake and I will have to get with Mike and take a short trip and check out the car in person and maybe get...

    Project MV8R a V8 into a 1991-1999 MR2

Jake, here's a link to a thread by Chris (cbulen) that has a bunch of pictures of Mike H's car..... You have to join to view it though... http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=329989&highlight=audi Supposedly Mike H is up in the Gainsville area so I think we need to talk with him and see...

    Proposed 1UZ-FE to R151F drivetrain

are you talking about the bearing retainer snout diameter? AFAIA, the AX15 bearing retainer will bolt on inplace of the R15x retainer this ould allow you to use the bearing from that aspect. The throw length needed depends on the how far back the diaphram finger are once everthing is...

    New toy for the garage

Yeah, 2mm tungstens should be fine. As for cups size, depends on the job and position. If your willing to spend the money, I would suggest changing over to a gaslens nozzle setup. They offer better less turbulent gas flow from the torch thus offering better gas coverage. I've noticed that i...

    Proposed 1UZ-FE to R151F drivetrain

I cant say forsure about using the AX15 hydro assembly, but the rest of your proposed setup will work fine... I do know that the Howe Racing Hydro assmbly will work but I would seguest that you change out the bearing... The reason for this is the bearing that is one the Howe unit is a flat...

    New toy for the garage

Thomas, Thoriated is really only for DC welding, it doenst work well at all with AC.. The Balling that your getting is normal, it is because of the EP (electrode positive) cycle of the AC current. During the EP cycle, electons are flowing from the work piece to the tungsten. This puts a...

    New toy for the garage

Having amperage control on the fly whether it be a foot peddle or a thumb / finger wheel makes a big differance when using GTAW (Tig) process... This is especially true when joining materials with drastically different thicknesses....

    Twin turbo tubular headers

Beveled edges do not reguier less heat. You still have a lot of thick material sucking up heat from the weld... The beveled edge is just easier to burn through... My guess it that your getting it from the lower heat and slow depo rate... If the pipes are 304, then make sure that your filler...

    New toy for the garage

Thomas, are you still using balled pure tungsten? From the reading your first post in this thread, I see that you have freq. control, is it a square wave or sine wave machine?? Im guessing that you have balance control also correct? If you are still using balled pure tungsten, stop...

    Twin turbo tubular headers

Umm nope, not half way on the peddle.... and most metals requier 1amp per .001" of thickness for proper penatration so being that 1 1/2 sch 40 pipe is .109", that would mean that you would need about 109amps.... When I weld sch. 40 pipe at work, I have the machine set to 150amps and the peddle...

    Twin turbo tubular headers

The Flange is thicker and will absorb more heat so being that you said that you used the same heat at the flange and at the pipe to pipe joints tells me even more that the joints are way to hot. Even at the flange it looks too hot... Either your machine is way the F off or your feeding me BS...

    Twin turbo tubular headers

That is not discoloration form not cleaning, not cleaning it will leave trash and spots in the weld, not cause it to turn gray... They are just way to hot. Yes, you do have to increase heat with thickness, but not that much.. It should have been done with a Root pass then a Cap pass... Being...

    Twin turbo tubular headers

Nice but I do have to ask, are they stainless?? If so, the welds are way to hot and I would be worried about cracking along the welds due to carbide precipitation at the welds...

    Project MV8R a V8 into a 1991-1999 MR2

Personally, I dont think the GTM is that bad (looks wise) but could be better and yes, it would be easier to just build a GTM but the whole point is the unique factor of a (sorta) true MC8-R.... Yes, the MC8-R was an entire tube frame car with a complete CF body molded from a SW20 (and...

Project Thread LS 400 Single Turbo

If your refering to the VVTi cams, they still use a scissor assembly just like the non VVTi cams but they are up front instead of in the center of the cam. You can see it on the exhaust cam in the pic above. The intake cam scissor gear is part of the VVTi / belt pulley assembly. The intake cam...

    ford edis system

in all actuality, wasted spark can be of benifit on turbo apps cause that extra wasted spark could help ignite any left-over air/fuel mixture in the cylinder and exhaust runner to thus helping to maintain spool or to help during spool-up kinda like anti-lag programming.

    ford edis system

Yeah, you could have one channel per cylinder but IMHO, it would be a waste of time and effort over wasted spark if you cant control individual cylinder timing...

    Project MV8R a V8 into a 1991-1999 MR2

Yeah, east/west would deffinitly be a lot easier as it would be far less extensive body and chassis mods then a north/south arangment..... Either way though, still an awesome project and look forward to the finnished product...

    Project MV8R a V8 into a 1991-1999 MR2

Nice swap there!!! For a second, you have me fooled. Being that you referanced the SARD's car, I was thinking that you were doing it like the real SARD's MC8R (i.e. stretched and the engine longitudinally mounted, not horizontally mounted)... Still a nice project non the less.... A fellow...
