Radiator we use is a recored diesel radiator (LN85). In my own ute i have used a 4 core centre out of a landcruiser with the standard LN85 top and bottom tanks. We have about 20mm till the left hand cam hits the firewall that gives us around 45-50mm between pullys and radiator face. I could...
I stripped the engine right down to do the cam belt, waterpump and starter. While i had the wiring loom off and all the other crap i blocked up all the inlett/PCV holes and just attacked it first with the degreaser then the an acid based ali cleaner(ali10??). Then once i dried it off with the...
Hey e-solver,
Looking good, umm why have you removed the idle up off the front of the inlet manifold?? the G3 should run that?? When i was working out how to wire it in i got out the break out loom and put the wires to where they needed to go. I got help from a mate and gloverman and mine...
1uz Ford/Mazda ute
This is the test fit gloverman was talking about.
Ok some issues I can forsee with this conversion:
Clutch master cylinder was fouling on right hand cam of V8
Steering rack and box need to be spaced out approx. 10mm
Log headers would need to be used.
Front Sump...

Here are some more Pics,
Engine in and sitting sweet, bit of wiring to do this weekend i think....
I think the owner will be pleasantly surprised if my own V8 hilux is anything to go by.

nah mate, all us kiwi's are still here....Just putting the finishing touches on my latest hilux(are they ever finished???)...Might just about be time to sort out another meet up.
nah i think your manifolds will be easy dude, just depends if you want to keep the battery under the bonnet or not and if you want the air con. If you move those it free's up the left hand side of the engine a lot.
Jesus Sefton thats a hell of a turbo!!! Hope you are getting the R154 or Gertrag box to handle it??
Here are some pics of the GT45 in the lux when i was sizing things up....below that is the TD08 sitting roughly where i want it to sit.
Your best bet is to find someone who has done the conversion and will supply you with a pattern for the engine mounts. It took me about 2 hours from start to finish to fabricate my 1st set of mounts so its not hard.
Adapting the gearbox....No it wont bolt up....I get asked this alot...I...
Damn i wish whakatane supercheap stocked hoses that shape!!! Nice radiator though. I have gone for a 4 core landcruiser radiator with my standard 2WD top and bottom tanks which mounts in the same position as factory......keeps me cool as
Well i just got a full V6 surf (VZN130) tank and radiator for $250 from a wreaker in whakatane. They also come in the 2.7petrol hilux's which there are a few of around. Best bet is to know someone in the wreaking industry that will stick it on parts link for you.
In regards to the...
Hey Mudman,
Yup the factory radiator is running at max just with city driving. I ran twin 10" davis craig fans on my last ute and they worked really well so im using them on my second hilux. Im just looking into radiators for my next ute to see what i can find.
Did you think about running...
Im my old hilux i was running the 2L standard deisel tank and was getting about 400km open road driving or 350 around town, which i thought wasnt too bad considering i was still running a low (4:1) ration diff. Im planning on going to a 3:72 ratio to improve economy in my new hilux.
We used the EFI fuel tank in glovermans hiace van and it seems to run the V8 sweet as, thats why i decided to go away from the surge tank and external pump this time on my second hilux...not only that but it should be a straight bolt up.
Philip.
hey matt,
Try using the fuel tank from the V6 toyota surf(KZN130) or the 2.7 petrol efi tank. I had the same issues running my standard tank in my last ute, it got especially noisy when the tank got below 1/4 fill. otherwise you can run a surge tank set up.
Philip
yeah i know what ya mean, i just made a huge sacrefice and sold my motorcross bike to get my new Hilux project rolling. I hope to be rolling and certified by the end of july to mid august.
