    Soarer V8 Manual Conversion

That is interresting the flange is different at the gearbox, I was sure the guy at Dellow told me they were tha same when I have mine modified but that was a while ago. Do you know how they differ? I might have to do a bit more scoping around on this.

    R154

It actually wouldn't surprise me if a Toyota V8 got the same economy out of 5th or 6th gears anyway. I changed my diff gears from 3.5:1 to 4.11:1 and my revs in 5th gear at 100k's went from about 1900 rev to 2450 or there abouts and there was no noticable difference in fuel economy in the 4...

    Soarer V8 Manual Conversion

Sorry re: the above, I do not have a W58 I can measure, only an R154. :)

    Soarer V8 Manual Conversion

My comments above about the bolt pattern for the bellhousing above, I was referring to the flange at the gearbox, not the engine as the original question was related to fitting to a Soarer V8 using a CRS bellhousing and both gearboxes have the same bolt pattern at this flange. I cannot easily...

    Soarer V8 Manual Conversion

The R154 shifter is the same as the W55, 57,58 etc as far as I know and they come in 3 different locations. I know the actual gear stick is the same as I have a W55 one in my R154 (The original was damaged in transit). I am pretty sure the housing the gearstick bolts into is exactly the same...

Twin Turbo Supra 5 Speed Transmission on Ebay

I have about 330rwhp and have done about 35 to 40 passes down the 1/4 and mine feels as good as the day I got it (second hand unit too). There was a dicussion on this page about the fix for the cast thrust washer by using a chromoly one. Very good gearbox for the Toyota V8's anyhow when you...

Twin Turbo Supra 5 Speed Transmission on Ebay

Just saw this on e-bay. Definately an R154 gearbox - looks a bit shabby but I'm sure it would clean up fine. $75 US is pretty good price - I would get it if I had a way to get the thing sent back to OZ. Only 1 day to go though...

Twin Turbo Supra 5 Speed Transmission on Ebay

Pic is a bit hard to see but I think it is a W series supra box. There is an R154 on e-bay in the US at the moment for US$250 with no bids. Wish we could get them that cheap here in Australia. If you know someone who brings cargo back to Oz you could get that one here for under AUD$1000 easy.

    Porting heads for more power

I have often wondered about which is the best finish to do on the inside of ports and have heard the tales from the old racers from the Carby days about how highly polished ports cause fuel droplets and lose power - this I can at least visuallise with large (low velocity) ports and the...

    Elec fans

Got my words a bit mixed up above but it looks like everyone understood what I meant. Just another note on the original query of the thread - it is a good idea to checkout what they call the droop curves for the cooling fans as the airflow can change quite dramatically if the fans are blowing...

    Elec fans

Most aftermarket cooling fans I have seen, you can remove the blades them and reverse the polarity of the motor if you are mounting on the front. At least the blades are going the right way then. Not sure about comparative efficiency of front or rear mount- I have used both successfully but I...

    oil cooler for sump

The Chev LT5 uses a thermostaticaly controled oil cooling system which works very well. During development, they discovered they had to use a progressive opening thermostat so it slowly bleed the cool oil from the cooler and lines into the engine until this oil was warmed up close to the oil in...

opinions on the newer style of s/c's.

I import lots of stuff from o/s and basically the official rules are that anything under AUD$300 does not attract any duty. For anything over $300 (regardelss of new or s/h) then they will still let it through without duty if the duty payable on the goods is less than $50 (same if you bring...

    intercooling options..

Just a note on the above. Neither oxygen or N20 are flammable, they support combustion but are not flammable in themselves - they need a fuel present to burn. I have often wondered about cooling techniques for intake charges as well. Has anyone ever thought of a compressor and evap system -...

    cast steam pipe bends

Cast is used for exhaust turbo manifolds due to the increased strength at high temps over mild steel tube. Thicker pipe does not mean it keeps more energy in the exhaust, it merely means the exhaust is heavier and it takes longer to heat up to it's final temp as you push more hot gas through...

    Tensioner Questions

How come I never see any of the cars from this forum in Canberra driving around? There are plenty of good projects on the go/finished in canberra and I drive my red Torana Hatch around all the time and have been to a couple of shows but have only met 1 person from this forum. I would love to...

How stronge is the R154 Tranny?

Mine is the early (1990 model) 2 bolt main botom end. Couldn't afford the 4 bolt at the time and they were not very available when I purchased mine - lots more of them around these days surprisingly. Number of bottom end fasteners not really and issue with these until you are pushing 8000rpm...
