Tri Y design according to firing order

Those 180 degree headers look the biz... no way I have the room on my own project but made for interesting reading, thanks. Jbrady, my car will be mostly street use with the occasional track day and drag run.. I'm very limited for room as the engine is in a relatively small car (ford capri)...

Tri Y design according to firing order

Heres an example I found on the net of headers with different set up primaries on each side.... http://www.stans-headers.com/Photos/246Y.jpg Elliot

Tri Y design according to firing order

Below is a quick number chart showing the firing order according to cylinder number. The Main number indicates the cylinder number and the number in brackets is the firing order. 8(2) 7(7) 6(5) 5(6) 4(3) 3(4) 2(8) 1(1) I am trying to work out the best design for a tri y header. I am...

    Custom tailshaft design

I am finally getting close to getting my 1uz / ford capri conversion to dyno stage. I'm working out how to do the tailshaft at the moment. I've spoken to a number of tailshaft specialists last week and been recommended to do the following :- use the original rubber doughnut assembly directly...

    Header design

I'm having trouble with the header design website (www.headerdesign.com). I can get to the main page, but it will not allow me to login to my existing account or create a new one. Is anyone else having the same problem ? Elliot

    Engine build up

The part that bolts to the block on my engine is the original engine bracket. The adapter simply replaces the oil filter which then allows you to remote mount the filter elsewhere. If you want an adapter that bolts directly to the engine then you'd have to probably make one yourself. I have...

    Engine build up

The adapter came from earls performance. Nicely made too. Available in cast or fully machined.....I went for the fully machined version. Price wasnt too bad either from what i remember. Elliot

    Engine build up

Thanks for the replies re: the oil pressure. I'm still trying to get the car body to the state where it's rolling with all the driveline installed so it can be taken down the dyno. I wont take up any more space on this forum with the car build as its not really '1uz' related, but if anyone...

    Engine build up

Two guys from Motec came round to have a play with my 1uz tonight. They managed to get the engine running a lot better and got her ticking over though it still needs more air than the iscv can supply. I didnt notice two concerns.... :- Firstly, that the harmonic balancer appeared to not be...

    Oil Filter Adaptor???

I cant say for sure if you need a thermostat for a race car....You definately would for a road car. My understanding is that engine oil, unlike transmission oil changes properties drastically with temperature change. The danger of running a thermostat-less cooler is that the engine oil will...

    Oil Filter Adaptor???

If you run an external cooler for the engine oil...make sure you run it with a thermostat. (i'm sure you know this already...just making sure ?) Elliot

    Engine build up

Cobber, Wish it was as easy as fitting the engine in the car and dyno-ing the whole lot, but unfortunately theres a big list of to-do's before that can be done, namely :- Make engine mounts, make extractors, make radiator mounts, make full exhaust system, wire transmission controller...

    Engine build up

The engine runs a little better now....as the throttle position hi and lo needed calibrating. Engine will idle now but stalls as soon as you look at the throttle. A Motec representative was supposed to be coming round to help set up the programming for me on Thursday but now they weather is...

Here's a few pics of the cradle and the mess of wiring and hoses :( In the last picture from left to right :- Oil sump non return valve. Pre-start electric engine oil priming pump (fills and pressurises system to 80psi). Map sensor Motec M48 housed in 1uz housing :) Oil pressure gauge Relays...

    Engine build up

Not sure about the 'live' broadcast.... makes a bit hard to hide those "did I remember to torque up the crankshaft bolts properly" moments. I will try and video it though... It'll just be a very short run as i want the Motec guy to come round and go right over the software settings in case it...

    Engine build up

Will take some pics for you David, but dont get too excited. What I've made is very 'throw it together'. I only need the cradle for this one engine and maybe only for a few weeks just to get the engine running, then I'll cut it up and throw it away so no need to make something pretty...just...

    Engine build up

I've drained the synthetic oil from the sump now.... expensive flushing oil that was...hehe. Filled it back up with mineral oil. Thanks for everyone's advice. I'm welding up an engine cradle so the motor can be securly held down along with the radiator, battery, fuel tank, ecu etc etc...
