Which is quicker off the line Twin or Single turbos

Yes indeed, given a choice between twins, and a large single with a split pulse housing on an inline engine, the big single is always better in every respect. But with a flat boxer, or vee engine with two banks of cylinders, twins can sometimes be more responsive if the turbos can be located...

Mathematical equation for HP VS. RWHP?

The actual transmission loss is definitely in the 15% to 20% range for most transmissions, that is, engine to rear hubs, but it is not that simple. The losses arise from two main causes, sliding friction in the helical cut gears producing oil shear, and oil churning/windage losses. Forget...

Which is quicker off the line Twin or Single turbos

The type, size, and turbo matching has far more to do with it than the number of turbos fitted to the engine.

    oil pump for turbo

The whole point about the pressure relief valve is that some cold oil can be very thick, and a positive dislplacement pump without a relief valve may easily overload the electric motor due to very high oil viscosity. Even a turbo scavenge pump will see solid stone cold oil for a few minutes...

    oil pump for turbo

How about trying a Holley Blue electric fuel pump ? I know that people have used them as gearbox oil cooler circulating pumps. They are good because the motor has reasonably exposed cooling surface area, and the pump itself has an internal over pressure relief valve. Maybe worth a try ?

Stroking the 1UZFE and 8 throttle bodies

SCV8 is right about taming wild camshafts. To do this the throttle bodies must be located as close to the intake valves as possible. There will then be very little trapped volume between a closed throttle and the intake valve. During MASSIVE valve overlap, exhaust is far less likely to be...

Stroking the 1UZFE and 8 throttle bodies

Spot on Superlex1, agree 100%. Sure it is possible to tune a normally aspirated engine to give more power, but you will end up with something that is noisy, peaky, and will probably wear out a lot faster because you will have to rev it fairly hard to make it go. Fuel is not getting any...

Stroking the 1UZFE and 8 throttle bodies

Individual throttles make no difference to torque or horsepower, all they do is give you a much crisper throttle response. Think about it. When the throttle is wide open, it effectively almost totally dissapears from the flow picture. It could be located anywhere, and if it is held wide...

Stroking the 1UZFE and 8 throttle bodies

Yes individual trumpets do look and sound nice, but lack of an effective aircleaner can do terrible things to your cylinder bores and rings. The GTR has a small secondary plenum after the throttles. This is a connecting passage that runs along over the top of the six intake runners. A...

Stroking the 1UZFE and 8 throttle bodies

No picture unfortunately. But they are a diecast metal block 38mm thick, and each individual block has a pair of 45mm throttles on the same shaft, spaced 90mm apart. Each block has it's own return spring and throttle stop. There are four 8mm mounting bolt holes. On the GTR there are three...

Stroking the 1UZFE and 8 throttle bodies

Nissan GTR has individual throttle bodies that are 45mm diameter.

    gtr gearbox???

Ha -ha, yes Rod, I am an old fart allright. Pretty fit for an old bloke too. When I am 80 I will still be making tyre smoke, not shuffling along in a walking frame.

    gtr gearbox???

Thank you MaxPower, I have been scrounging scraps of information from here and there, and am pleased to be corrected. It sounds like HSV are having similar problems to us in sourcing parts for a decently strong manual 4WD system. I too am old enough to remember the drag racers using...

    gtr gearbox???

Hi there guys, my first post here. I too am looking for a very strong 4WD system for a possible 4WD street rod project, and may be able to help with some suggestions. The GTR gearbox is incredibly strong, in Japan 1000+Hp drag cars are running in the eights on slicks with standard geaboxes, so...
