    Oil Jets

Interesting writeup. But it seems that a simpler and more reliable (but unfortunatley more expensive) solution would be to keep the squirters, remove the checkvalves entirely, install a oilpump with more flowcapacity (if $ enough, in the same time convert to a drysump) and live happily ever...

    Root Style Intercooler

Zuffen << Usually there´s just a small crack when an intercooler fails, and not much happens. But if mr murphy is around, a water to air interooler doesn´t just makes the boost gauge drop as damage on an air to air unit does! Personally I do preferr water to air intercoolers, I just want to...

    Twin Turbo Race Car Engine

Hmh, you are right, there should be pics... Since me and the constructor of the 9-3ss doesn´t live in the same city, I´ve not actually seen the installation, only talked about it with him and it´s possible that he has chosen a different route without me noticing. The guy is btw the technichan...

    Root Style Intercooler

The fins are one aspect that often creates trouble, but the worst case is If the piping in a water to air intercooler brakes, you have a imminent chance of hydrolock that probably will destroy crank, rods and pistons. One should only use water to air intercoolers that´s purpouse made and won´t...

    Engine Dyno

Yep, I mean that you lift out the engine and bolt it up just like an engine mounted on a tranny but the tranny is now a big computercontrolled "brake" and some simulating equip that the engine support systems are connected to (water, IC, oilcoolers and so on) to create a controlled enviroment...

    Engine Dyno

I agree, there´s a lot of hidden horsepower and reliability lost on an engine that´s road-tuned. On a dyno, one can monitor and make adjustments much more precise, and if the dynoroom is a good one, also simulate different driving conditions - oiltemps, watertemps, inlet air temp and build...

    Root Style Intercooler

For cooling of the water, I would use the biggest car radiator that I could fit in front of the standard radiator. Oilcoolers aren´t preferred because of their material thickness (constructed to endure oilpreassure) - less efficient cooling compared to a ordinary car radiator. For...

    Twin Turbo Race Car Engine

"always" is a strong word, what you say is true with most (95-99%) of all standard turbos, but there are some exceptions. A friend of mine is running an 2.3L turbo engine at 2.6bar (38psi) boost and a vertical turbo mount. http://www.93ssr.com./engine/ The turbo has special seals, bearings...

    Evo or STi

The STI has the stronger subaru tranny, but take the wrx or the GT box... brakes like glass. The EVO tranny is very rugged unmodified, and if modified, the housing is very often used to build extremely strong modified gearboxes for all types of racing.

    Porting heads for more power

The part about reinventing the wheel is about concentrating one:s efforts on doing things that base researchers hasn´t already covered. Almost every thinkable pattern, dimps, spirals, crosspatterns, mirrorpolish, knobs, squares, "fishskin" patterns and so on has ben researched over and over...

    Harder than Hard

The quality of the posts in this forum is among the best I´ve seen, I totally agree with Nath, this is absolutley the best 1-3 uz forum and also one of my favourite forums on the net - just because folks are keeping the quality of the discussions high and skips the b-s.

    Evo or STi

The EVO any day of the week! MUCH stronger drivetrain, more rugged engine and any performance parts can be bought of the shelf. Basically - much more power / $ when you start to tune it.

    Porting heads for more power

I´ve actually seen plenty of CNC machined heads... and none of them races with mirror polish... Mirror polish is a something that has ben tested and retested by thousands of peoples with results that supports the fact that an intake runner shouldn´t have a mirror polish. There´s a good reason...

    Porting heads for more power

I wounder why the Forumula one, nascar, WRC or imsa engines doesn´t have mirror polish?? maby someone here could call them and enlighten them about their mistakes in enginedesign.

    New Crank/Rod Idea (4.8L)

Maajola measured the sleeves on his 1UZ - 3mm, in the same thread, someone stated that the 3uz is the same block as 1UZ but with bigger bore and 1.5mm sleeve thickness.

    5.5 liter conversion

What about the passages för cooling fluid? Bore out to 100mm or so, wouldn´t that result in an engine with little or no cooling? Anyone out there with a damaged block that maby kan chop it up into peaces and check out the construction?
