What is so special about stand alone vs. piggyback?

I don't think Haltech is overrated, rather, I think a lot of people use them so there's more incentive for other people to use them. That is, just about everything under the sun has been ran by a Haltech, so there is already information out there. I have heard nothing but bad things about the...

Are you sure? Going off that picture, using 13/64" I get 5.1mm.

Yeah, and how much you mill it.

    Head Gaskets & Compression Ratio

If your combustion chamber on the head is curved, and you slice off some of the material, you'll effectively change the shape, whereas if you use a gasket, you'll just get the same shape closer. Let me see if I can do a crappy text illustration of what I'm talking about. Unmilled chamber...

    New Crank/Rod Idea (4.8L)

Just a question on the sleeves. The 3UZ sleeves are the same thickness but a bigger bore. So wouldn't they be experiencing a bigger stress from explosive forces? It seems to me that with a smaller bore we'd be able to use a thinner sleeve. If the 3UZ sleeve is also good to +.060", maybe we...

    New Crank/Rod Idea (4.8L)

Yeah, I realized after I went home on lunch that both the UZ and the 2JZ use a solid lifter setup. I have worked on an RB25DET engine and that uses cam-on-bucket but with hydraulic lifters. The RB26 head uses solid lifters, and thus is harder to adjust lash. No shimming is required with the...

    Head Gaskets & Compression Ratio

Peewee, I am not doubting your knowledge but I would disagree. How would we be changing the squish area? If anything, we'd be getting more squish due to the tighter space between the head and pistons. But I'm not sure, so that is why I ask. I would think milling the head WOULD change the...

    JGTC Supras

I was just watching BMI Hot Version: American Touge on my lunch break, and they had a segment on JGTC and manufacturers. I had no idea Toyota was using the 3UZ in JGTC! I thought they were still using the 3S-GTE. Granted, I haven't kept up with JGTC at all, but that made me happy. The...

    New Crank/Rod Idea (4.8L)

Okay. I think I have decided the route I'm going to take. I've been watching and listening to that video of the 1UZ revving with the ITB's, over and over again, and I love the sound. I'm afraid if we add too much displacement that it'll take away from the character of the 1UZ, specifically...

Yes! I am really interested in this engine, and pretty much everything I've learned about it has been from this site! There is very little good information elsewhere about the 1UZ. By the way, thank you for the site because without it, I would know very little of this engine. Thanks!

I was just using that thickness to calculate bore spacing.

    Who Needs a Supercharger Manifold?

Yeah, I wouldn't mind trying a Whipple. The more I see and hear '03 Mustang Cobras, the more I want to throw a Whipple on a UZ.

Sounds to me like he wants to put a crate engine in a 91 LS400?

My intention is to move the wrist pin up and significantly shorten the skirts. Also, with the amount of material I'm removing from the crank, I can hopefully remove weight from the outside of the counterweights.

Okay thanks, see I thought I was overlooking something. So the LS1 bore spacing is larger than ours. That is what I thought. I will look into more options for sleeves.

A 101mm bore should be easily possible using the Dart MID sleeves. In this pic you can clearly see that the space between the bores is 43mm. For a conservative estimate, we'll call it 42mm (but it certainly looks like almost 43). Add the stock bore of 87.5mm and you get a bore spacing...

    New Crank/Rod Idea (4.8L)

Yeah, I can find early 1UZ's pretty easy. If someone were looking for the best R/S ratio, a 162mm rod is available from Magnus as well. If we're keeping the stock 82.5 stroke (which would require the pin to move 2mm up) we'd get 1.96. That's a bit high I think. A better choice would be the...

    New Crank/Rod Idea (4.8L)

Andrew, I forgot to address this, but I think what you're talking about is an extended deck? I know a few companies make both blocks and adapters to increase the deck height on some Honda engines. So it's possible, but I'm sure you wouldn't find any for the UZ-FE. A custom one would probably...
