Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

I had a long phone conversation with my shop guy . . . it all sounds like it is ready to tune. I am now waiting for a dyno session confirmation for September 24th. Lots to do then: Set up main map, single NOS nozzle fuel enrichment map, and duel NOS nozzle fuel enrichment (dry NOS system).

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

It Started (I think)! I received this e-mail from my shop guy, Art, in Pattaya: "I started your truck today. No leaks any where. I mean not air leak, and no fluids leaks. Started right up on the first try. Starts very easy. Idle nice, and respond nice. More later...." I wonder what...

    Correction CORRECTION: In my last posting, I said " A 4.8L (265 cu.in.)[sic] is better than a 4.0 (242 cu.in.) in a low-boost, high NOS application -- for me." . . but my math was wrong. An standard bore 2UZ bottom is 4.7L (286 cu.in.), and an over-bored, standard stroke 2UZ can be 4.75L...

    1uz aluminum rods

No, I do not want to use liners or offset grind a standard 1UZ crank. I am not looking for ultimate strength, just usable strength. I have not heard of a 2UZ crank breaking or two-molt mains breaking at 600hp, my goal. I am exploring the various combinations of practical bracket race engine...

    1uz aluminum rods

BigKriss, thanks for the input. Actually, 3000km on a drag race only motor would be pretty good (12,000 quarter mile passes!). Anyone else have experience with the R&R, or other, aluminum rods. I am starting gather parts for a 4.3 1UZ (2UZ crank in the 1UZ) full race drag only motor.

R&R Racing Products will make custom aluminum 1/2/3UZ rods from a special forged extruded billet for around US1000.oo. Maybe we can go in for a group deal with them. http://www.rrconnectingrods.com/aluminumrods.htm

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Yep, you are right about the copper head gaskets . . . that first re-torque would be very labor intensive on a 1UZ, that's for sure. After four months waiting for ARP head studs and Cometic head gaskets to arrive in Bangkok, the motor is finally going back together. A photo from...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

You're telling me! But, I hate to admit, most of the delays were my fault: trying to "save money" when I knew better. I made the decision to get the quality Cometic head gaskets and go to ARP head studs too late in the build-up. I knew from the start that, given my application and intended...

OK! Heads are back on with the Cometic 1.5 gaskets and standard-sized ARP head studs (torqued to 60 ft.lbs. dry). Actual progress! The rest of the motor is going back together today!

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Actually there are a host of copper head gaskets available, some with the o-rings embedded and/or seals inside that do not need head/block grooving. They work fine on the street and are not race only. My concern was the re-use of the standard head bolts on a supercharged engine, albeit at...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

The [very expensive] ARP/Lextreme standard head studs FINALLY arrived. I took those, and the Cometic head gasket to the shop. Re-assembly can commence!

Hey! That's pretty strange . . . . a photo of [very nice] Cobras was somehow attached to my last post! Binary Gremlins working their mischief again at the Lextreme server!

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Back from the South island of New Zealand. It was very cold . . . . but fresh and clear-- just what this Bangkok resident wanted! No car news: still waiting on the ARP head studs. Will race again one day soon . . . with the supercharged 1UZ V-8 . . . as soon as the ARP head studs get here...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Timing is everything. Yes, timing is everything . . . good and bad. My Cometic 1.5mm (.060) head gaskets finally arrived, but in the meantime I also ordered a set of "standard" cylinder head STUDS, that will take two more weeks to get here. Why standard size? Well, I listened here, and to...

Yes, I would prefer the MLS gasket, and have ordered a set a month ago, but it hasn't even been shipped yet. Has anyone here used the copper with steel ring insert?

Thanks for the replies. Thanks All for the replies. Thanks SuperRunner for the FP warning, I appreciate it. On GT Race Gas I am looking for 425rwhp with the little blower @ 8 pounds boost, 475rwhp with one nozzle (.021) of NOS, and 525rwhp with two nozzles (.021 + .021) of NOS -- on a dry...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Heads are back from machine shop. My race 1.3mm Cometic head gaskets have not arrived yet. It has been three weeks coming from The States . . . . . However, the cylinder heads are back from the machine shop after having the "humps" removed from the cylinder head chambers. This is the...
