Found the problem! OK, after tracing all ignition-related wires, separating a few, and shielding a few others . . . . it still "hit the RPM limiter" of an unknown source. A quick-witted shop hand noticed some sparking at the coils . . . sure enough . . . . the car had been wired before I knew...

My first posting to this forum about my supercharged 1UZ project was May 2009 -- 16 months ago. Building a race car in Thailand is all about patience!

The torque number I quoted in my entry (663 ft.lbs. - above) was the uncorrected "delivered torque" reading from the rollers. We had not calibrated the dyno software before we quit the session. We had only begun to make the AFR-to-boost/vacuum map.

p.s., BTW, the Thai shops here put the larger 2JZ valves into the 1UZ heads and back-cut the ports and bowls to match. Very slick set-up! They flow very well!

XR8tt, that's exactly what I intend to do: While I am maximizing my current combination (motor and chassis set-up) through racing, I want to build a real 'race' short block with forged pistons and either aluminum or steel rods for a reliable 650hp or so. Either a 1UZ block with the 2UZ crank...

OK. Thanks. So, I would also need new camshafts on the 3UZ heads. This sounds like an expensive option. I have not noticed a rush to 3UZ heads on this forum.

Zuffen, thanks for the tip. Some of what I have to work against here in Thailand is availability of parts . . . without the expense of importing them. There were no cars officially imported to Thailand with a 3UZ, and very few "grey market" cars/SUVs with 2UZs. I have a chance of getting a 2UZ...

Justen, horsepower alone is not so critical, but the shape of the horsepower and torque curve is very important to a racer. The more torque "under the curve" = the quicker you will go in a quarter mile. The Thai car magazines often have "dyno day" articles where a "tuner" is "increasing"...

Funny! You think about horsepower the way I do (as a bracket racer); it is an interesting general number, but not as interesting as a consistent elapsed time number.
