Validate all chassis grounds and connections as well. Each cylinder head should have a ground (rear of heads), one of the engine mounts should have a ground and the transmission bell housing should have a ground.

When the valves come out, take a look at the valve guides for signs of wear and excessive heat (bluish color). If the guide I.D. deforms or is inconsistent with neighboring guides, a stuck valve can occur resulting in the piston/valve contact.
