Nice! Interesting that Fran's original prototype had a twin turbo 1UZ in it. I always thought that was the perfect combination for the SLC

In general, it's bad practice to mix instrument (ECU & low level inputs) grounds with power grounds and other noisy sources (injection, ignition, etc.). So my kneejerk recommendation would be to try and run a separate ground for the ECU and its inputs.

It's true the forum is not as active as it once was, but with as vaguely worded as your question is, I'm not surprised no one has responded. Give some more detail on what's on this motor and we might be able to help you more. Is it supercharged, turboed or still N/A? Any custom options on it...

First clarify which engine you have, the older 1UZ without VVTi or the newer VVTi version. Two different engines, and two different manifolds for them.

I don't know that anyone has tried what you're proposing, but JustenGT8 looked into the flip side of that, ie putting VVTi heads on an older block, and trying to run external oil lines to the heads. I think he concluded there were other passages that didn't mate up as well, so I think he...

Gloverman is referring to starting fluid or ether. It's something you spray into the intake of your engine to temporarily "bypass" the stock fuel system. If the engine runs on starting fluid, then something isn't right with your fuel injection. Here is one example of "starting fluid":
