Measuring shim clearance with feeler guage question!

Clearance for inlet is .15 - .25 mm. Set a 'go' feeler at the clearance you are aiming for with a slight amount of drag, and a 'no go' feeler at .05mm larger. Why have the clearances increased ? Is the aluminium bucket (follower) collapsing under the shim ? The reason early UZ's spit shims...

    Setting up coilovers?

The only thing that changes when you adjust ride height by the spring abutment or the shock top is the amount of bump and droop travel available. Shock top raised - less bump travel, more droop travel. Spring abutment raised - more bump travel, less droop travel. Spring 'preload' is...

    Setting up coilovers?

You want the front wheels to have an equal weight. The rear should also have equal weights (it will be different total to the front pair) With an offset driving position it is not possible to get equal corner weights. Front rear weight distribution is dependent on the use of the vehicle. A...

"Coil on plug" coils for 1UZFE

John, The Nissan Skyline RB25 "distributor" runs from the exhaust camshaft and contains a dual optic hall sensor. The trigger plate is thin stainless and has an outer row of 72 ? slots and an inner row with 6 slots that are different widths. When used to trigger Autronic or Motec systems I...

Urgent help needed - timing belt replacement.

How did you remove the timing belt before you removed the crank bolt and the harmonic balancer as well as the tensioner assy ? Did you cut the timing belt ? Or have you only removed the serpentine auxiliary belt ?

Supercharger Vs. Turbo- Off the Line Results

Probably right jibbby. But it is very difficult to be dogmatic about it, there are exceptions to every rule.

Supercharger Vs. Turbo- Off the Line Results

Steve, Don't have a turbo UZ, the race engine I built is N/A. Not in either camp really. The owner of the clubman sports car ( I drove in an enduro race a while back, RB25 Nissan N/A 6 cyl ) and I are having the same discussion re turbo or M90 for the next enduro race. M90 - response off...

Supercharger Vs. Turbo- Off the Line Results

Thanks for the vote of confidence jibbby, but with road applications i'm not sure that race car experience is always relevant. I think a point being missed in all of this is engine capacity. If the engine is large enough, it will light up the tyres off boost anyway. There will be no turbo lag...

    Happy Birthday to JOHN

I will second that. Happy birthday John. I couldn't resist the following. A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa, taking her faithful, elderly poodle named Cuddles, along for the company. One day the old poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, Cuddles...

Supercharger Vs. Turbo- Off the Line Results

John, I assumed that most people meant a drag race standing start where a turbo can be loaded against an auto trans brake to make boost. A manual trans car will need anti-lag to make some boost and will be a lot more difficult to get off the line. For rolling starts, if you can keep the rpm up...

Supercharger Vs. Turbo- Off the Line Results

This discussion is really about 'horses for courses'. The graph is from a Whipple supercharged race car. Blue is boost in kpa Red is rpm Green is speed Black is throttle position. The car is exiting a 39kph (24mph) hairpin and accelerates to 124kph (77mph) in the one gear. Rpm on exit is 2189...

Need help buying a TIG welder, 230V $1500 price limit, any ideas?

Sniper, When people find out that you have a TIG welder or a metal cutting band saw, they will bring jobs bigger than you ever imagined doing. Buy the biggest/meanest/best equipment you can afford. Love those Miller prices, even converting to $ AUD they are about 1/3 what they cost here.

Need help buying a TIG welder, 230V $1500 price limit, any ideas?

For one off fabrication you do not need a water cooled torch. I have a Miller Syncrowave 250 with small Bernard torch. You will need AC/DC, high frequency start and foot control.

    Crank keyway ????

Camshafts will be the least of your worries if you shear the timing gear key! We do not run a harmonic balancer, toothed belt drive to alternator and dry sump pump, belt tensioner is locked solid. So far so good after 3 hours running to 9200 rpm.

    Crank keyway ????

I think it is more a matter of the retaining bolt not being torqued up. People have suggested 'just hit it with a rattle gun' or 'hit the spanner with a hammer'. Torque to 245 Nm. Toyota don't specify that amount of torque just to stop it coming undone !

    monster touque

Seems like you need to work the numbers back from the prop diameter/pitch/rpm. Do you have a hp curve v prop rpm? You can then work back to reduction ratio required/engine rpm/engine bhp. You will be chasing bhp not torque. If it is an aircraft prop you should be able to get the numbers.
