Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Yup, forgot to do this. I'll swap them tomorrow. As for the fuel sender, it wouldn't surprise me if it were working correctly, I did put the car into storage nearly empty and with all of the starting and pumping some of the fuel out after deburring the fuel line to make sure I didn't have...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Good news is all diagnostic codes except for the sub-O2 sensors have now been solved. Bad news is the PS pump is leaking, the fuel gauge is not reading (although there may not be enough gas in the tank, we’ll have to wait and see when I finally make it to a gas station) and the coolant sensor...

    Trottle cable mounting help?

Jibby, I thought about the cable clamp as well since I have the cut portion and could just used the protective outer sleeve to cover it back up but haven't found the correct crimp yet that would work. Asking around local shops being as there are numerous hotrod guys around here. For now I may...

    Trottle cable mounting help?

Gee, you don't think I know this Jibby since I already have the motor with all of its stock parts bolted into my engine bay? Stock throttle cable for the 7M-GTE in the '87 Supra is too short and I do not have the stock cable from the 1UZ since it was cut... Looks like Jake's worked because...

    Trottle cable mounting help?

Bringing this old thread back to life....what throttle cable did you end up using since the MkIII Supra cable is too short?

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Thanks Peewee. It appears to have been a lack of grounding. When I pulled each of the installed sensors (ECT, IAT, TPS, and sub-TPS) to check wiring, they all had one thing in common (or not so common depending on how you look at it.....), the lack of ground (brown wire on each of the 4...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Success...sort of! So yeah it ends up I was not getting spark for some reason and since there was no ignition signal, the ECU would not fire the injectors (no injector 'noise' could be heard). Good news! Today I started pulling off the covers so I could get at the coil plugs to see if they...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

It is actually the fitting and not the compression part. Brand new rubber all the way around on the PS system. I actually didn't know the ECT was for the water temp, learn something new every day. Is this from the same sensor which goes to the dash or a separate sensor? I will check...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Getting a bit further now. Fuel pump is up and running with the ignition key in the ON position. Starter is still working :) I even got the check engine light working and had it output the codes today. Good news is I have not found any gas leaks in any of the new connections yet on the new...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Just a quick update to thank Anodyne, CJSupra90, and Jake for their help so far with the wiring. Although I am still waiting for some further advice from Jake from another question I sent over today, I managed to get the starter subsystem to work today and roll the engine over a few times. Next...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

No, it has the exhaust manifolds installed. There would be no way I would have installed the engine without the manifolds on as it would be extremely difficult to install them with the motor in the engine bay and I am not pulling the engine again unless either a) something catastrophic happens...

I'll roll it out of the garage first =)

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Excellent information Anodyne! The three wire plug in the photo is at the front of the engine but I do believe the big black wire is the starter wire.

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Another update, this time regarding wiring. The information I have been able to find thus far has always pertained to the post-'89 Supras so some of my wiring does not quite match the information I have and I am looking for further information, especially if anyone has an '87 Toyota Supra TEWD...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Just a quick project update. The engine is now mostly buttoned up. I'm still hunting for a lower radiator hose and cooling fan. The A/C system was removed and the heater core lines were bridged since the car isn't run during the salt, err....winter season here in Michigan. Working on wiring...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

I will be starting up the engine without exhaust just to get it started and make sure everything is working correctly then probably trailer it to an exhaust shop since we have noise laws here and I could not afford the ticket after sinking all this money into getting the car back on the road, lol.

    Formula offroad car, with 1UZ-FE

Yup, like that one. It would be nice if this sport would come to the States (never heard of it being run here but it may and it just hasn't gotten enough attention). However I can see why it wouldn't be, there are already plenty of environmentalists trying to get off-roading banned here.

    Formula offroad car, with 1UZ-FE

Sounds like a most excellent project. Love the video!! I remember seeing another video of one of these events where there was also a water crossing. If the driver kept it floored, they would skip across the top of the water but if they let off, they would sink.

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

Engine is finally mounted to the frame. The rest of the drive train has also been re-attached including the drive shaft and the couple of reinforcement bars (one on sub-frame and other on drive shaft tunnel) plus the shifter was put back in so I could put it in gear if needed. I was also able...

Michigan 1UZ - MkIII Supra swap

While I have added further updates on my own site at http://1uzsupra.com, I have been slacking adding updates here. However, another milestone in my project has been reached which are the motor mounts. Yes, the motor mounts have finally been fabricated and are a couple of coats of paint away...
