    Looking for a rebuilt 1UZFE

Recently completed 1uzfe engine conversion. Engine was tested prior ?? However it has developed a nasty metallic grinding sound from the crankcase. Long story short I'm chasing information regarding a very good, or rebuilt 1UZFE in Australia. I think the imported engines, second hand or half...

    1uz soarer cold start

Looks like I will be replacing this and go from there. Car has been quite good last few mornings. Will remove the fuel pump bridge in connector port in the morning and see how it behaves.

    1uz soarer cold start

Hello and thanks. Yes 1st gen. Will look into that, have replaced ect sensor before but never the one you mentioned. Very possible the culprit, however bridging the ports does help a lot ? Still not convinced I don't have an Fuel ecu issue, just the cost of a new one is a little prohibitive...

    1uz soarer cold start

I'm going to cut to the chase. Difficult starting cold, need lots of throttle to start. Seems to choke, cough splutter for about 10 seconds or so. If I bridge Fuel pump FP + B+ it does seem a little better. If I turn ignition on a let pump run for 5-10 seconds before cold start When the...

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Hahah, I'm glad your only joking. Yes off course as mentioned to meet tougher and tougher emissions testing. As long as the car last as long as the new car warranty who cares right ?? Wrong. I actually get sick of people quoting factory specs like they are the goal of some sort, hardly...

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

I just see no point in running engines that hot. Just no head room when things get a tad warm, there is a reason manufacturers pull timing in factory ecu's as the water temp increases. My engines are almost cool when opening the bonnet. Oil pressure and oil temps are still well in the normal...

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

The factory 1uz ran right at the upper limit for water temp when it was new. Newer cars are even worse. There is just very little headroom when things start getting really hot, hill climbing, towing etc. It's really for emissions purposes only. It becomes sort of meaningless to run engines at...

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

'Modern' engines need to run hotter than years gone by ? i bet your ls3 runs around 110 degrees oil temp too ? Pretty std for HSV. I have my L98 running around 78 deg c at cruise and 80-85 around town. Attempts to continue to meet stringent CAFE requirements with no care for performance...

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Well the car is running quite well now so will just leave that for another day if needed. Spent a few hours yesterday on the car. New cooler thermostat, car sits under 80 deg C now, highway or town. Engine bay is noticeably cooler when liftin bonnet after a drive. Also fit a Radiator shroud...

    Soarer dyno figures

Looks good. Like the idea of the uncut factory loom. Very nicely done, attention to detail. Carpet needs a good clean though :D

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Thanks for the heads up Jim. Probably won't bother then if it's going to be hard to get one. Will be spending some time over Easter on the car just to fine tune a few things. I'll take some shots of the engine conversion and post up.

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Kelvin do you have any spare half moon diagnostic ports ? Considering wiring one into conversion car if the wiring isn't too much. Also need a scan tool, but they all seem to be obd2, anyone know of a reasonably priced obd1 scanner ?

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Getting the feeler gauge there wasn't that hard, just found the first degree of movement was just taking up slack in the linkages. Anyway I set it so the throttle plate only needed the smallest of movement to go open circuit. Drove car today and has had a pronounced effect on drivability from...

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Ok, just set it up again. Setting off the idle switch seems to make a lot of sense once done. There also seems to be a bit of play in the throttle linkages which makes it a tad difficult to set with a feeler gauge. Anyway, reset ecu, idles 650rpm when warm. VTA was reading .65 V at idle 3.9 V...

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Thanks for that, I'll reset it all tonight and see how it goes. Just the small change I made has had a noticeable negative effect on the power delivery, so it is definitely worth spending he time to get just right

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Looks like the above quote seems a tad off for the VTA signal. My car was reading .55 V closed and 3.80 V WOT. The lowest I could set the TPS to @ WOT was around 3.6, so 3.48 isn't achievable. I end up setting it to around .45 V / 3.7 V. Car seems to have lost a bit of power, idle is perfect...

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Posting this from another site as a reference. Seems like 3.48 V is a good target for WOT, .5 closes. "Vc should be between 4.8v and 5v. VTA should range from .5v (as low as .4v is fine, IIRC) to 3.48v (higher than 3.48 may result in a fault code depending on the actual tolerance of the...

Ok excellent, can just set it up to match then.

    1UZFE runs great without AFM

Has anyone got access to a 92.9-94.9 1uzfe engine for testing. Wondering if there is a difference between TPS readings of different year engines SC400 verse ls400 etc. Donor car was a 94 celsior with trac control. Throttle body was replaced with another from a non trac control car...

    Soarer dyno figures

9's and 10's is well rich, and seems fairly typical of a stock tune once at operating temp. Really explains alot when these stock tuned 1uz's fall on their face at WOT. Kelvin, do you feel top end power is gained largely through fuel trim ? are you addng any more advance up top under load ?
