Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Update: Last night we all thrashed the little 1UZ. The electrician tested every wire, every connection, and every plug on the coils and injection. We traced everything from ECU to terminus - all O. K. The cams are installed in the right places. We swapped in another AEM ECU (with same map) -...

Thanks guys: I will be at my shop today with the tuner/mechanic and the wiring guy . . . and the first thing I will check is the cam timing.

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

I spent another frustrating evening not getting my 1UZ to run. It popped, banged, and threw burning fuel out the header and onto the floor! Now that the injectors have been checked out as OK, it looks like I am back to the "coils are wired wrong" theory. I will have to get my tuner and the...

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. I had new SARD 800cc injectors on my previous race motor (a turbo 1.5JZ) and three of the six did not work 'out of the box' (two did not open and one was stuck open), but worked fine after 'clicking' them. I should have known better this time -- and...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

I had some 'new combination bugs' to sort out last week-end, and didn't make the first round call. The motor started, but then it dwindled and died. At first we suspected one of the coils was wired out of sequence, but settled on a stuck (open) injector or two. With wasted spark you really...

    Comparative 1UZ Piston Weight

My Vortech supercharged 1UZ project is now complete -- just final tuning needed. Follow the whole project on my Racing Projects Blog: http://drjeffbangkok.squarespace.com/racing-projects-blog/ Thanks for the help. Doc

Anodyne, Thanks for the tip. I will keep the belt tension where it is, then check once it is broken in . . . and I have a few 1/4 mile, high rev passes on it, then make any tensioner adjustments that are needed. I am very happy with the belt alignment -- it seems to be as straight as can be. Doc

A Beautiful Sound! Go here for a short video of the wonderful sound a supercharged 1UZ makes. I will post a longer clip after this week-end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exeCuuxA1k8 Also, here is a photo of Art and his crew from Voodoo Racing Inc. in Pattaya, Thailand who handled the 1UZ...

    Blow-Off Valve Spring Pressure?

I did a search on line and learned a lot about supercharger and turbo boost management, there are some differences. I have ordered the 7 pound spring. I "finished" the assembly of my 1UZ last night, but didn't start it . . . it was just too late for any of us to be in full command of our...

Stevechumo and Cribbj, thanks for the input. The adjustable BOV is a good idea. I did a search on line and learned a lot about supercharger and turbo boost management, there are some differences. I have ordered the 7 pound spring. I "finished" the assembly of my 1UZ last night, but didn't...

FYI . . . . . you guys weren't much help on the blow off valve spring pressure (except Cobber), but the Corvette guys had a great (and technical) discussion on this topic over at...

    Blow-Off Valve Spring Pressure?

FYI . . . . . you guys weren't much help on this, but the Corvette guys had a great (and technical) discussion on this topic over at Corvette Forum on centrifugal supercharger [Tial] blow-off valve spring pressure: a 3 pound spring recommendation won the argument...

Thanks: it is a fixed tensioner. I made the supercharger brackets adjustable in three dimensions (with bolts) so I can adjust the belt alignment once it is running and revving . . . . then I will weld them in place when it is all straight. Doc...

Cobber, thanks for the tensioner pulley tip - I will keep my eye on it. My engine builder and I have different feelings about how tight is 'tight enough' for the blower belt. I think nearly 'rock hard', he thinks a little bouncy. We will see. I have ordered 3, 4, and 5 pound springs for the...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Thanks. The scoop was a birthday present . . . but it IS a drag car, although no need for 'ram air' with a blower, it does take air from outside the engine compartment . . . and gives the truck a nice 'old school gasser' look that I like. It was very difficult to engineer the piping for that...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

The Brian Crower 2JZ springs fit perfectly with the turbo 2JZ spring retainers. They seated as they should. There are many, many 1UZs here that use these springs successfully in all forms of racing - curcuit, drag, and off road - without trouble. I thrashed late last night getting my racer...

    Blow-Off Valve Spring Pressure?

I am building a Vortec-supercharged 1UZ for my drag race car (see photo) and am nearing completion. I have a question for this experienced group: I have a Tial 50mm blow-off valve (see photo) that has a 14 pound spring in it (intended for a turbo). My understanding of supercharged engines is...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

Advice Needed I have had a very productive last couple of weeks. I had my racer completely re-wired (very nice), including all that was necessary to run the AEM ECU -- and had a set of stepped/merged headers fabricated (very nice). While thinking through where to mount the Tial blow off...
