Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

After a big rain ended, and after I finished up some last minute "small jobs" on the race truck, and after the strip dried a little, I made a few test blasts on the return road of Bangkok Drag Avenue. Unfortunately the strip had closed by the time I was ready. There was nobody around to...

There is only "the hottest period of the summer" here - all year round! But who am I to complain: I live in Thailand!

My race car is ready to test . . . . . . but the weather is not cooperating: HUGE rain all day!

Thanks JustinGT8. Yeah, my fingers are crossed too. It looks to be completely put back together now. Even though it is the "Damn Wet and Damn Hot Season" in Bangkok now, I hope it is not raining this week-end . . . .

Because the 1UZ torque converter is thicker, we had to trim off the cross member trans mount to get the trans back up into position. This was a really tough job. We really struggled. After everything was in place and bolted up tight, the trans mount had to be welded back in place. Also...

When I installed the Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump I was lazy: the A1000 has -10 fittings on each end, but the outlet on my fuel cell, as well as the fuel filter, were already -8. At the time I felt that that was "good enough." After talking to some knowledgeable road and drag racers who...

Drove down to Art's shop in Pattaya with my friend Mike to pick up my virtually new A342 trans. What you are looking at here is my old 1JZ trans case with 100% new internals, all new electricals (senders and wiring), a 1UZ bell housing and Performance Industries 4000 stall torque...

The trans rebuild is going nicely. Everything but the case will be unused, 100% new parts. This is my trans case with all new internal parts - now with six (6) new clutches and eight (8) new steels (and a heavy duty truck band - not shown). These are 100% new, unused parts.

Thanks Zuffen. Diagnosing a pulled out converter hub was a time consuming mind bender, that's for sure. Oh well: I move on. Yep, those A340 trans parts are worth their weight in gold. Thailand is often referred to as the "Detroit of Asia" because there are so many cars and trucks manufactured...

My bad luck is sometimes paired to good luck. It's a push. Michael at MV Automatics in Australia and I determined that the turbine had pulled loose inside of the original 4200 stall 1JZ MV converter (the grey one). Bad luck. Art in Pattaya happened to have a Percision Industries 1UZ...

Project Thread Supercharged 1UZ Bangkok Drag Truck

After much head scratching and the complete disassembly of the transmission (it was "like new inside), I sent these photos to Michael at MV Automatics in Australia . . . because the only thing we could think of was that the torque converter had failed. These are the splines inside of the...

. . . . so . . . . I take out the A342 transmission, take it to my trans guy, he opens it up . . . and what does he see? Nothing is broken. Aweshit. Our guess: torque converter sprag broken . . . or . . . even though I checked it and topped it off . . . the trans eventually sucked all the...

    Motor/Transmission Mounts

1UZ in a Mazda Familia mini pick-up racer. Finished (solid) race car motor mounts. The motor mounts bolted into the pads where the 1JZ used to be Finished right (steering) side motor mount bolted in place. Plenty of room for the headers.

How To: 1JZ trans and converter onto a 1UZ

"Fitting a Toyota 1JZ A340 transmission onto 1UZ." That's the search term I wish would have yielded some results when I was in the process of building my combination. I had a race car with a 1JZ (actually a 1.5JZ) and racing automatic and torque converter when I decided to "add two...

    Race Powerglide Builder in Australia?

FoPar > Thanks again. Do you have a web page for your racing operation? I'd like to see your set-up. How did you mount your torque converter so the clearance to the PG pump was correct? . . . Did you have the TC builder weld custom tabs? . . . . Did you use the 1UZ flex plate? . . . How...

    Race Powerglide Builder in Australia?

FoPar > Thanks for the referral. I will check out Northmead. I also lean to a Neal Chance converter. What do people say about the Australian "Dominator" torque converters for racing?

    Race Powerglide Builder in Australia?

I just spoke with Jeff Dellow at Dellow Automotive in Australia and the news was good: the detached Australian and "machined-off bell" USA powerglide both bolt up to the Dellow 1UZ-to-powerglide bell housing. Their bell housing uses the pump bolts to mount the glide. Now, my next decision...

stevechumo > I don't doubt for a minute that the A340 series transmission can be made strong enough for my application - there are several companies that build them. My problem is getting quality mechanical work done in Thailand on a consistent basis - when I do not have the time or expertise...
