don't worry, people often overlook some of the basics. It happened to me a few years ago and my dash went on and off and i thought i had major problems, and lo and behold, bad connection at the battery haha.

check your battery cables

you may have a bad connection on your battery. Remove, clean, and tighten your cables.

You can buy complete supercharged setups for that 540i, good luck with that on an older lexus. Go to Dinan's and look at the options, there are more bmw tuners than lexus. And adapting a 1uz to the bmw tranny, talk about cost, you could have forced induction with that money.
