    Ideas/tips for newbie

You're going to spend tons of money getting "optimum power" out of a naturally aspirated 1UZ engine. Trust Rod & me - together, we've probably spent six figures on these engines, and haven't accomplished what a stock Chevy LS can put out. Put a 50 shot of nitrous on it and you'll be there.

Welcome! Nitrous is the cheapest power adder going, but be careful, it's the equivalent of crack cocaine for car junkies :) and the consequences are just about the same.

    Thoughts on this Manifold design?

I've often thought about coating the intake side (fuel rails, manifold, etc.) with a heat insulating ceramic/polymer coating and/or then wrapping it with the usual fiberglass stuff. Just to keep heat soak to a minimum. Probably more applicable for a street car than a racecar.

    Thoughts on this Manifold design?

Composites would help with the heat insulation too.....

    This month’s progress

Well done Frank, but I'd watch out for belt oscillation with that long dry sump drive belt. Are you going to run it on an engine dyno prior to putting it in the car?

    Possible ECU issue

I'd only trust Genuine Toyota Blinker Fluid for this critical application :)

    Possible ECU issue

Kelvin, it looks like it was running a bit lean. I'd suggest checking the blinker fluid for the right AFR. :) When the die grinder came out I nearly wet myself!!!!!

    Richwood Technologies Supercharger Manifold

Ivan, you bring up a good point about the charge air cooling, but it also depends on how efficient your blower is. I forgot, are you using a Roots or a screw type? And you're right, you'll get more peak power out of turbo's, but you won't get that huge bump in torque until they're on boost...

    A650E to RF1A adaptor

Interesting swap, perhaps Zuffen, Gloverman, or someone else with truck experience will jump in and offer advice. Good luck with your project!

    1uz fan idler bracket failure

Mat, while I respect your desire to save a few pounds, the OEM part is not that expensive; why not just purchase it from your local Toyota/Lexus stockist/dealer? If you've already had issues with the Chinese junk, why replace it with a used part?

    3uz rods...forged?

I think that article is incorrect, but will verify later. Toyota/Lexus have always used powder forged rods in their engines, and the pistons are the hypereutectic variety.

Welcome Tom - you have a really interesting project there! You should have a look at this thread: http://www.lextreme.com/forums/index.php?threads/1uz-vvti-race-car.17293/#post-143866 and hookup with Frank Clark, the OP, and see if you can get him to cast another dry sump pan for you. These...

Hey Mumf, welcome to the forum. We need people like you!!! IMHO, the best way to learn about these great engines is to read first, then wrench. The New Car Features (NCF) files are a treasure trove of great info, especially for new guys trying to learn more about the UZ engines. Send me a PM...
