Chocks behind the rear wheels? :)

Maybe someone has had this happen

I've seen something similar happen with the leaky capacitor problems of the 90's Toyota/Lexus ECU's. Easiest thing to do is swap yours temporarily with a known good ECU if you can find one. In what part of the world are you located? This is a very international forum, and we could probably...

    The Engineered 1UZ V8 Datsun 620 Build

Rod (Zuffen) has always had a soft spot for truck projects :) He built an insane 1UZ for his Land Rover. I'm a Supra guy, so I thoroughly enjoyed your first build, but will follow this one too. Your dedication and perseverance to pursuing perfection are off the scale, and we're all eagerly...

    sc400 supercharged dyno sheets

Nice flat torque curve. How much boost were you running and what type of supercharger were you using (Centrifugal, Roots, Screw)? Any intercooling?

Fast Idle but dying when driving

Tony good to hear from you & glad to see you're still puttering with the 1UZ's. Sorry, but I don't have much else to suggest other than the cam sensor. Good luck with it and let us know what you find?

    Big engine problems

Wish I knew more about the VVTi engines - JustenGT8 is your man on those. If he doesn't reply to this thread, you might try PM'ing him.

    1UZFE Powered Airplane

Very impressive; thanks for updating! It's amazing how much power those Gates Polychain belts can transmit, and at relatively low RPM too. At what RPM range are you running the engine? Did you have to make any reliability mods for the aircraft application, or is it box stock?

    Brand new aftermarket starter motor

Relying on my feeble memory, I'd say the one in the left pic is correct for the early 1UZ. I don't recall seeing anything like the one on the right for our engines, but Justen has had experience with both generations and he may jump in and clarify this better than I.

    Timing belt

Assuming you're buying from eBay US, I don't know what freight & Customs will cost you to Oz, but if something in a no-name kit is poor quality or doesn't last, then you'll have to buy the "right stuff" down the road anyway. If freight/Customs & the cost of your own time are unimportant, then...

Careful when buying your engine: dents on ECU

Great diagnosis & fix, George; thanks for posting!

    Timing belt

Just FYI, the timing belt and cam belt are one & the same...... Don't buy one of each, unless you want a spare :) There is another belt that drives the accessories; that's the serp belt.

    Timing belt

Around 5-8 years ago, we had good reasons for buying only OEM or Gates as the fitment of the no name belts on eBay was pretty lousy, and their specs were in doubt as well. I remember purchasing an eBay engine overhaul gasket kit, and getting the timing belt and it wasn't even the right length...

    Big engine problems

Possibly the timing belt jumped? It sounds cam related, as though when the cam adjuster is trying to do its business, you've got piston/valve contact? Do you have access to a borescope that you could put down the plug holes to see if there's been any contact?

    Random cutting out

Had a very similar issue with a first generation AEM that I had installed in my Supra by one of the better AEM tuners. Turned out to be a misfitting pin/connector between the harness and ECU. The car would simply cut out and die randomly. Only by wiggling conductors at the back of the...

Vendor 36-1 Tooth Trigger Wheel for 1UZ Available

George, in the past, some people preferred to use the Ford EDIS trigger wheel pattern (36-1). It's a cheap & easy static ignition solution.
