not really, american autocrossing favors lighter and smaller, power isnt a necessity. Handling is by far the most important attribute to a successful autocross car. I often have faster times in my Corolla than cars with 100hp+ more than me. Porsches, M3's, Vettes, Mustangs, STI's, EVO's, etc...
