Actually looks like a decent idea to me. Another benefit would be a lower turbulence around the merge, which would tend to help total flow.

Start the engine and pull the fuel pump fuse to depressurise. Probably wouldn't stop the tank siphoning, though.

I'm thinking about putting one in a 1973 Mk III (TC) Cortina. I was given the car recently, and it's got no rust, an oddity in itself. The old 200 six still runs well, but the gearbox is sad. So's the paint. An easy restorer, or good basis for a project! As it's not worth much, and only weighs...

This used to happen a lot with XD-F series Falcons. The remedy was usually to clean the coolant level switch. Note that's NOT the temp sender. Dunno if that'll help or not. :)
